The fact that The Rolling Stones cover The Beatles has got a certain charm, but isn't this a lame and somewhat awkward performance? What were they thinking?

I pretty much posted the same sentiment when I first saw the clip some time ago; Stones fans let me have it good. And yet, it wasn't a knock on The Stones (of whom I am a fan); just the specific performance.

No, that's great! A nice (big) garage style rendition of the song. Amazing that the guys are still out there and doin' it.

I actually like most of this except the bridge, which falls flat IMO. Nice harmonica by Mick and rhythm playing throughout by Keith.

I've seen it before and I love it. It's the Rolling Stones my favorite band for over 50 years so I am biased.

I think it's pretty good. Mick comes in too fast and out of key, but settles down.
This recording has no bass and you can't hear the keyboards, so it probably sounds even better on the master tape.

Charlie doesn’t play the drums on the intro like Ringo did. Horrible.

They should've done a Satanic version of "Within You Without You" instead.

I'll be honest, I didn't love it by any means, but I didn't think it was as bad as everybody made it out to be

From the outset, I knew that The Stones' performance of Come Together would gain trouble.
They were The Beatles' direct rivals in the sixties and to this day, that continues.
Some people has a need to make a contest out of everything. Some people can't discriminate.

This version of the Come Together was not well played.
Unfortunatly it only gave the Beatles fanbase more ammunition in pointing out that The Stones were a horrible band and this was the ultimate proof. Of course, there was not a word involved about that this performance was played by men in their seventies and that it was a one-off. No, it was The Beatles polished studio cut, directly compared with this not-so-well-played live version. And then not a word about how horrible The Beatles could play sometimes, especially during the Get Back sessions or how The Stones has pulled it off for millions of fans during the last 50 years.

Similar things happend in the Stones fan camp. Only here, it was that The Stones were playing a crap song to begin with, and therefore of course couldn't care less. There was even suggestions that they sabotaged the poor tune on purpose, to make their own material stand stronger!

I laughed and was very amused. Jagger and McCartney would probably do the same.

Nice to show some respect, but it sounds like the whole band falls asleep midway through the song.

Maybe if it were remixed by Giles Martin

    Better than I expected.

As I figured, the weak link here is Mick's awful, out-of-tune tossed-off vocals. When he's 'winging it', he can be really terrible. Then again, out-of-tune, struggling vocals is a quality he shares with Paul McCartney, who at times in concert can be very painful to listen to as well.

I was there. I thought it was fine, and the atmosphere was amazing. I listened to it again just now. It's not a cosmic revelation, but it sounds like rock and roll to me.
