RFD-TV has taken "Ray Stevens' Cabaray Nashville" off of the network and now has a deal with the Al Gannaway estate to rerun the "Stars of The Grand Ole Opry" 35mm color films from the 1950s featuring many of the Opry stars from the time and this is something I will look forward to watching every week. This is the closest thing to the 50s Opry that can be broadcast on TV in the modern times with picture quality in mind and these films are aired right before the reruns of the TNN Opry telecasts from the 1980s-1990s on Saturday nights and it was the very first TV series shot in color.

Wish I had RFD-TV (just have over the air stations), the Gannaway stuff is fantastic. I bought a Carl Smith one on vhs back in the day, couldn't afford the full set of tapes :)

That's awesome! You know those tapes weren't cheap either :)

The DVDs advertised on the RFD-TV telecasts aren't cheap either (5 payments for $24.99)

    Good news!

I'll warm up the DVR, I'm sure there will be some "keepers."

    Single discs?

The whole series on about 12 discs. These same films were once licensed by Country's Family Reunion and have aired on that series on RFD-TV as part of Country's Family Reunion, but now RFD-TV is working directly with Gannaway.

What I mean is, $24.99 per disc?

May seem high, but not extreme. I've seen up to $30 and more for single DVDs.

So roughly $10 per disc. Not bad at all . . . as long as they're decent quality.

Looks like it will be airing out here at 5:30 p.m. starting 11/23 under the title Country Legends: Grand Ol' Opry Stars of the 50s.

Brad, the last Country's Family Reunion DVD title I bought was on DVD-R disc instead of actual pressed DVDs. I don't understand why they'd go to all the trouble of professionally printing the packaging and then use DVD-Rs instead. Hopefully Gannaway will have RFD-TV use real DVDs for The Stars Of The Grand Ole Opry DVD titles.

In a addition to some of the well-known country stars of that time, there are some great performances by "old timers", such as Moon Mullican. Some real treats on that footage.

In fact, the film RFD-TV aired last night featured Moon Mullican.

Yes indeed, Al Gannaway was very innovative in TV production and his innovations in color TV filming and multiple camera switching are very clearly shown in the series.

I don't think I saw this post until afterward; couldn't go that far back in my program guide.
