    Szól a Kakas Már (The Rooster is Crowing), an achingly beautiful Jewish/Hungarian folk song, here performed by the always wonderful Muzsikás featuring Márta Sebestyén.



    On a live recording from a Jewish community house in Moscow posted on YouTube the band tells how Jewish prisoners in the concentration camps would sing the song in their bunk beds after the lights were turned out and the guards weren't listening. One can hear why this song combining beauty and sadness would appeal to them in those horrible circumstances.
