I suppose if I pick up The Who Hits 50, I'll be able to cross the incredibly rare Who Collection off my wishlist (since the long version of "Magic Bus" is the only reason I'd want the latter anyway)... ;)

The tan one is the single CD version whereas the blue one is a 2 CD set.

That's what I assumed, although I could swear I saw some copies of the 2CD version with a tan cover...

It's especially nice to see "The Relay" included, since it doesn't seem to show up very often on Who comps.

Come to think of it.... I have several different Who comps, and I think the only one that has "The Relay" is 1983's Greatest Hits. In fact, I'm pretty sure the only reason I've held onto that particular CD all these years was specifically because of "The Relay"! But now that it's been included on Who Hits 50, I guess the old comp is pretty much worthless... maybe I can finally get rid of it!

(... unless Greatest Hits contains any other unique or alternate versions that I'm unaware of.... anyone?)

The Who Hits 50 has become my go-to comp for this essential band, replacing Ultimate Collection both for track selection and sound.

And for the 3 minute Won't Get Fooled Again rather than the 8 minute.

Relay had been a glaring omission in the catalogue for many, many years. I always found it very odd that it never appeared anywhere during the mid-90's/early-00's reissue campaign.

The vinyl is up on popmarket. You can get 10% off with popmarket10 code... but the question is if the vinyl lp is worth it. So, is $26.09 worth it??!!

Definitely late to the party, but reviving this thread for others who may have missed this comp. After listening to much of it (on Spotify--so no comments on mastering) for the first time, I was very pleased when I heard the original mixes of Athena (w/ telltale early drop-out) and Eminence Front (w/ vocal flub and more prominent keyboard). It was also nice to hear some of the ealier tunes in what seemed like proper mono mixes. I'm not usually much for comps, but I like this one. :)

I don't think the vinyl is worth it. The CD is better.

Pretty good overall. I'm sure there are better sources for several tracks. Not qualified to comment.

A remix of it appeared on 30 Years Of Maximum R&B.

Unfortunately it was cross-faded with another track.

Yes, and both were out of print when the post-box set reissue campaign started (although, IIRC, Rarities was still available in Japan). It was an odd omission.

It was also on this Greatest Hits, the only one with the full length until Hits 50 came out:

Also out of print when their catalog was reissued.

It was edited on Hooligans and shortened by about 30 seconds.
