Couldn’t agree more. I generally like The Beatles in mono but the big exception to that rule is Beatles For Sale. That album sparkles in stereo; it’s muffled and dead sounding in mono
Yes 2012. I wrote the wrong year. Seems like 2010 was last year. I must be getting old. 2012 was the year. How could I have forgotten that was the date that I bumped my head on the bathroom sink and when I came to I had a vision of the Flex Capacitor.
Abbey Road imo sounds like it has a little too much bass in the songs. All other ones I have sound great.
Months later, while I still easily prefer stereo, after a while of listening to mono I get used to it and now I understand what people like about it. The warmth.
Yep! Was discussing the differences between mono and stereo Beatles with my mate and then he mentioned he had a mono boxset I could borrow. Wish he said that earlier!
IMHO...The bass is bloated/boosted on every 2009 stereo remaster album. Rendering them all unlistenable. The “cleanups and fixes” were an unnecessary careless mistake and take away the human factor to the music.
And so we've come full circle on this forum. The 1987s CDs suck --> the 2009s are the definitive versions --> the 1987s are great --> the 2009s suck. I love this forum sometimes.
Look - it took me a while to come to this conclusion. the 2012's - they lose points automatically for having digital in the chain from a lot of people, and I take responsibility for jumping on that bandwagon as well. I will say that PPM, WTB, HDN, and BFS sound great. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase these if looking for a nice clean playing copy.
I’m with ya! Especially with the so-called fixes. Now those annoy me! Especially noticeable on “I Want You (She’s So Heavy). I love the late 80s CDs best. On those, a little EQ tweaking covers a multitude of audible sins.
IMO Both Box Sets sounded to my ears like new mixes. The Mono Box Set is the best sounding (to my ears) of all the re-releases in the last 25 years. The George Martin CD releases sound very odd - way to bright - for my ears. I will always say the original vinyl LPs sound the best of any release. One because the density of sound on Vinyl is what the songs were mixed for - and two Vinyl was how the Beatles meant us to hear their songs.
Given the cyclical nature of this place, is it safe to say that there will come a time when you loathe this forum??
I agree that Help, RS, should have used the 65's. WA was definitely worse. AR - eh, its not my go-to. Compression to blame? Soundstage is defintiely narrowed.
The only one i think that had bloated bass ( that I own) was Abbey Road. Had to go to Audacity and tone it down some.
Not to mention the fact that somehow we've all got the same system, same listening environment and same results from our hearing tests. Quite a feat.
