    Hi Ron-
The 2000 remaster of the Quadrophenia soundtrack is Entwistle's mix. Lots of bass! It also restores the oldies which made up side four of the vinyl soundtrack but were deleted from the first issue of the soundtrack on CD.

Hey Mike, can you post a wave of The Real Me where it's really rocking from the remaster?

Sadly enough, I wouldn't mind. It'd be nice to have the original mix back in circulation (the remix of that album is very different), and there are some studio and live goodies from that era that haven't yet officially surfaced.

Plus, don't forget that Rolling Stone gave It's Hard five stars when it came out. :)

I take it you don't like By Numbers? IMO a Deluxe Edition of Numbers would be most excellent since the material is great and we don't have ANY By Numbers outtakes.....

As long as we're speculating, how about a Sell Out DE with the 1968 Fillmore East show on Disc Two?

I quoted directly from Pete's website (thus the quote marks;)). Pete also mentioned in a diary entry this spring that he was doing the remixing. That's all.

We do have Pete's demo of Slip Kid, which is mucho superbo IMO. And the interesting demo of Squeeze Box. Don't think there is enough material for a deluxe though. Maybe live material to adjunct.

    Hi Dave-
Ordinarily I could, but my Cool Edit is acting freakish. I haven't been able to use it for about three weeks--sorry! Anyone else?

I don't know-for It's Hard(Special Edition), maybe they could release the ORIGINAL MIXES, UN-NO-NOISED? Gawd, the amount of No-Noise just kills an already abysmal Who album.

Am I the only one who's getting tired of Pete's naval-gazing demos?
Jeez, enough solo stuff already, Pete. T

The flame that fed the beast of Tommy was the four of them bashing it out together. I want more vintage live tracks!

Yes, you are. I'm sure that most of the rest of us are PO'd that he's not including the demos for the entire album (which have been available on boot for years). There is a difference between some of the more "navel-gazing" instrumental experimental pieces that are all over the various Scoops, and fully-formed demos for his most popular LP. Also, I think we've gotten plenty of live Tommy over the last couple of years. I want vintage live tracks from BEFORE Tommy.

Let's see, recent output: for vintage live we have LALDE and one chopped up DVD of Isle of Wight, both from 1970. Then there's Young Vic live from which they dropped all Tommy tracks - and which wasn't among their best gigs anyway.

OTOH, we have four CDs of Pete's Lifehouse demos, a double CD Scoop compilation, and a double CD Scoop III.

Eight CDs of Pete demos vs. three CDs of live vintage Who.
And now comes another CD of Pete demos.

Besides the light-hearted replies in this thread it seems there are more folks who want vintage live Who than vintage Pete demos.

Pete's always been concerned with the band's history, but his emphasis has a curious blind spot in favor of the demos versus the band recorded performances.

We'll probably get a SACD of the Live at Leeds Deluxe Edition, hopefully with better sound than the cd. Since they put all of the deluxe My Generation on one disc maybe they can do the same for Leeds and have the songs in the right order.

I know, I was just mouthing off. For me even *major* Who doesn't rate checking out variant versions. Much less so "By Numbers" or "Face Dances". Just my personal problem.

Anybody get the new ICE yet? It has lots of info about the Deluxe Edition 5.1 mix and the outtakes on Disc 2.

Notes from the ICE article on Tommy SACD

    FYI, as reported in ICE:
Disc 1 features a stereo mix from the original LP stereo master tape, as recently discovered in Los Angeles at the MCA vaults, along with a 5.1 mix produced by Townshend from the original multi-tracks.

John Astley: "Pete did a wonderful job mixing it, in his own studio. And he did it twice... he did it once and sent out a few references, and got some feedback, and tweaked it and mixed it again. And it's really lovely. Just moving things around spatially in the mix, because it's very difficult to know which way to go with 5.1. He's absolutely thrilled.

He continues that the surround mix gives more emphasis to John and Keith, which Pete felt had been subordinated in the original mix. There are plans for a DVD-A later on, with some video added.

Other things mentioned: "This is the first of four or five, we hope; that's what we're planning anyway," Astley continued. "Pete's already started mixing Quadrophenia, which I think we'll be looking at next. I think he's also planning to do Who's Next and Live at Leeds, and also Empty Glass for Atlantic at some point.

"It's really nice, because Pete's old studio has been empty and dusty for years and years, almost like a storeroom; suddenly, Pete's upstairs mixing this, someone's downstairs mixing that, and there's a barge moored outside with a studio in it, and there are people in there working on videos... it's so exciting, the whole thing."
