That's great news. Looking forward to these reissues.

This is an era that I definitely want to do more exploration of.

Incidentally, can someone point me to a thread suggesting better alternatives to the Sabbath black box? I have that and the Dio years boxes and neither seem terribly well-regarded on here for their sonics.

I've been wanting to add these albums to my Sabbath collection for a while, especially The Headless Cross and TYR. So this is very exciting news.

If there were any Japanese bonus tracks for the originals, hopefully they will be issued worldwide on these reissues.

Most of the recent(ish) Andy Pearce remasters are well regarded here - not by everyone but many.

The first round came out in 2009 and, of those, they were pretty well regarded except for Paranoid, Never Say Die and Technical Ecstacy (IIRC he may not have done the mastering for some or all of those three).

There is a lot of info in the below thread.

Many thanks for the assist! Sabbath is one of those bands where I've yet to hear their albums mastered well and it drives me nuts because the music is so good!

There was one of each on Cross Purposes and Forbidden.

    Are they worth getting?

I haven't heard them in a long time. Just wait for the reissues. They should sound good if they keep using Andy Pearce plus there will be bonus stuff.

Excellent news! I have The Eternal Idol. It is hard to find stuff from the Tony Martin era especially on vinyl.

They are one of my favorite hard rock bands - fwiw, I'll tell you what I have and what I like (you can bear in mind that I listen to hard rock pretty much exclusively in the car -which doesn't mean I like slammed masterings or can't tell the difference - I can)

s/t, Paranoid, MOR - The most recent DE Rhinos (Pearce mastered a couple years ago IIRC) -
Vol 4 thru Sabotage - 2009 Pearce remasters
TE/NSD - Castle 96 (also have the Black Box versions of these) - don't really love either version
H&H thru BA - 2009/2010 Pearce remasters - BA is still no great shakes but I think that's just the mix

I do not have any of the original CD relases of any of these albums so can't compare to those but I strongly prefer the noted Pearce remasters over the Rhinos and 96 Castles.

They are largely regarded as excellent - I think they are the best songs on their respective albums. Here is "What's The Use":

This is "Loser Gets it All" from the Forbidden album. Like I mentioned elsewhere in the heavy metal or sabbath threads, these tragically poor choices for japanese bonus tracks probably hurt their fan base here in the US.

Sabbath has had notoriously terrible management.

  20. The Hud

The Hud Breath of the Kingdom, Tears of the Wild

That is great, thanks! That should have been on the album proper.

    Cool news :)

I'm missing Headless Cross and Tyr from the original series.

    Cross Purposes is.

I don't like Forbidden, but I'm sure it has its fans.

I never picked up this album because it was so universally bashed. I'm willing to give it a chance now. So psyched that these will all be available again.

Anyone have an idea what year this might be?
