  3. I would have voted for side one, but because of the overkill of its two "big hits", I'm fed up with it and today prefer side two, mainly because of the Piltdown Man! This vocal delivery cracks me up, and the tune itself rocks and is interestingly devised.

I've listened to the second side one time in the last 30 years. I'll have to give it a spin. :)

I don't care for the growling noises on side 2.

Side two of TB2 is much better than TB

  8. Side 1 for me. There are bits on side 2 that I like (the opening sections, piltdown man, Sailor's hornpipe as a finale), but side 1 is a much more consistent and interesting piece of music.

Side 1, if only for lack of that sodding hornpipe!

    I hate that hornpipe.

I went with side one. I like side two, but the addition of the Piltdown Man continues to remains a mystery to me. The opening passage with the acoustic guitar is beautiful though.

Both sides are absolutely great. But my nudge goes to side 2 BECAUSE of Piltdown Man !

Side One has become over familiar, but was really the heart of TB. The demo was all about Side One. Same with Ommadawn...you get the feeling that Side One was the main statement.

Neither, TB was a novelty album plain and simple but it got Mike Oldfield noticed. Hergest Ridge and Ommadawn were far superior.

Can't pick one. Whole side 1 is great, but "Peace" alone deserves a vote. Can I vote for both?

I don't think anyone can deny, the first section of Side Two is quite beautiful!

If you prefer only one of the two sides you only enjoy half of the cake. Take the whole piece!

yeah that's pretty much how I feel. Side 1 = The Exorcist for me. Really though I try to listen to the whole thing while out on a road trip. Somewhere I *think* I have the quad SACD tucked away-that was an interesting listen, though I really prefer hard center channels.
