TV stars who were fired?

I don't mean cancelled, but rather let go from an otherwise continuing series.

Maybe I'm having a brain f*rt, but I can only think of a handful:

The most famous example has got to be Suzanne Somers of Three's Company

Robert Lansing starred as General Savage in season 1 of the war drama 12 O'clock High (a very good series I just recently discovered). He was let go after the first season -- a story put out at the time said the network wanted a younger actor (his replacement, Paul Burke, was in fact older). Many years later producer Quinn Martin admitted Lansing was fired for being difficult (he's also rumored to have been released from his previous series, 87th Precinct, for the same reason).

Tony Franciosa left The Name Of The Game after shooting three episodes in its third and last season -- whether he was fired or quit remains disputed (I go with the former theory). He was replaced by various leading men such as Robert Culp and Darren McGavin. McGavin was apparently gong to be his permanent replacement if the show had been renewed.

If I Dream Of Jeannie had gone onto a 6th season, Larry Hagman would have been fired and replaced by... Darren McGavin.

 

The most recent example is Thomas Gibson from Criminal Minds

Lets not forget the Chuck Cunninghams and Judy Winslow's of sitcoms who were written out when the writers decided the shows had too many kids...

And going way back: Eric Fleming on Rawhide?

 

IIRC, he was fired, though I think it was in an off season and he was being difficult about renegotiating his contract and they just decided to get rid of him

 

Who? Sheen? He got into a war of words with producer and creator Chuck Lorre and they fired him. Herve, I don't know about.

 

I think Eric Fleming quit "Rawhide". I don't think he was fired.

 

John Amos, "Good Times"

Robert Reed was apparently going to get canned from "The Brady Bunch" had it continued.

 

IIRC - Louis CK replaced the actress playing his youngest daughter in the first season of Louie. The parents were a little too demanding to keep the shoot moving (so its kind of a case of the parents getting fired). I think she was replaced mid episode, scenes with the original actress were not re-shot...

 

Charles Rocket was fired from SNL for cursing on air.

Isaiah Washington was fired from Grey's Anatomy.

 

On Seinfeld, George's fiancée Susan was killed off because none of the cast liked her.

 

Was Daniel Baldwin fired from Homicide?

 

I believe he was, yes.

 

what about the revolving cast of ER, some of them had to fired rather than quitting.

 

Can we also include game shows?

Chuck Woolery, who was fired from Wheel of Fortune by Merv Griffin for demanding a higher salary.

 

How about soap operas?

Michael Muhney was fired from The Young and the Restless for groping actress Hunter King several times.

 

Lauren Tewes from The Love Boat, although she was brought back for some of the later movies.

And let's not forget this rather notorious on-air dismissal:

 

John Barbour, who would go on to co-host NBC's Real People, was the original host of The Gong Show, but was fired when he objected to poking fun at the acts.
