They're back for you: OPPO Digital - Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Players - Buy Direct from the Manufacturer Just grab it.
What? That's just an old bookmark you saved. Totally meaningless other than OPPO didn't bother to delete it. I've got a link for the Sonica DAC. Doesn't mean you can buy it: OPPO Digital - Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Players - Buy Direct from the Manufacturer
I’m not sure but as it’s still functional (you can enter an email address) to sign up, it seems to me that the 205 is still on track for its final production run. The OP suggested otherwise.
Here it is... OPPO Digital - Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Players - Buy Direct from the Manufacturer Click on either the 203 and 205 and then you'll see a tab to "Register For Potential Availability" for both players. The 205 page says that more will be available in August. On the 203 page it doesn't list a date or if additional players will be made available at all. 203 - OPPO Digital - Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Players - Buy Direct from the Manufacturer 205 - OPPO Digital - Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Players - Buy Direct from the Manufacturer
Dedicated thread is: Japan Mini LP SHM-CDs - New Releases, George Harrison and more Here you will find a lot of information, almost every issue. (For instance, info about a new UFO release with 2018 remastering was posted there just a moment ago). As for the "slim packaging" in the new Uni Hi-Res CD project... I remember that they tried to distinguish the packaging twice before. In 2010, as a stunning cardboard sleeves (in Mini LP size). Then in 2013, as a real Mini LP, packed in an individual handmade boxes of white cardboard. Now it looks like their third attempt. I have a feeling that this is something cheap - now they are silent, but back then they showed pictures of white boxes before release. First attempt: Second attempt:
P.S. If this is not jewel cases and not cardboard sleeves, what else it could be? I remember how, at the same time, Uni launched another Hi-Res project called High Fidelity Pure Audio in France. Blu-ray Audio discs were based on the same mastering as Japanese SHM-SACD editions and packed in cheap BD cases made of transparent plastic:

I compared UHQCD vs. Reg. CD, but not vs. SHM-CD. I'll report result. (Old Uni remaster was good). Report: UHQCD vs. SHM-CD First impression: I compared Julie London UHQ with SHM. UHQ won, but not with a large margin. It sounds a bit more spacious and precise, more transparent. It's obvious and listenable, but not at the level that, if you have already SHM, you must upgrade to UHQ - no. It rather sounds like: if you have to choose between SHM and UHQ, it's worth spending 4 bucks more on UHQ. [even $8! - post remark] The difference in SQ between SHM and Regular CD is greater than between UHQCD and SHM-CD. This corresponds to the waveform charts provided with the UHQCD. I have to point out that in the case of Uriah Heep (SHM-CD vs. Regular CD, post 320), I compared mass-pressed regular disc with a limited pressing SHM, standing 7 years apart. While in this case both discs are Japanese limited pressing, standing a few months apart.

If you use MQA compatible equipment, you can play with the high quality of the original master street. We will discuss the end result that looks promising: there are many positive reports from those who heard it, pointing out the clarity of the sound called "de-blurring". However, what we need to keep in mind: If recording/mastering was not good, don't buy MQA version! (Genesis, Queen come to mind). Please first check the best SHM-SACD Part 3 list. (from the Stereophile forum) "The "de-blurring" happens during the encoding process, not the decoding process. That's what makes even an un-MQA-decoded file sound "better." I have heard the result on very revealing systems and can attest that it is both different and an improvement. It's no "magic bullet;" no container can fix a bad recording. But, with a good to great recording, this container system does less harm. The most revealing demo I've heard was a live recording made in a church. The "regular" file sounded good. The MQA file, though, was spectacular: The reverb in the space became more specific, more real. The audience's conversation was more intelligible, the host's speech was clearer, the choir became a collection of singers as opposed to a mass voice and the vocalist's performance was even more magical. I liken the process to focusing a photographic image. However, the system isn't magic. If the original recording sucks, there's not much that MQA can do."

The list by Claus is a good starting point but I would disagree with some of his placements. There's no real equivalency between the two Fairport Convention SHM-SACDs for example, one is vastly better than the other.
It's a good point, but I believe we have to concentrate on the titles within new project: Post #641 - please, guys.
Redfox, I knew that you would be interested in this new Uni project, and this is the place to talk about. Remember, a few years back you compared Pt SHM vs. non-Pt SHM, felt the difference and posted a good report... The same with UHQCD. Interestingly, if earlier the term SHM-CD (Super High Material CD) was used by Uni and Warner, whereas HQCD (high-quality CD) was used by Sony, now they all adapted only one name: Ultimate HQCD (UHQCD), where Ultimate means the addition of another layer of Photopolymer in its liquid state during the manufacturing process (Post #1). I compared UHQCD vs. Reg. CD of the newly recorded title with a very promising result, indicating substantial improvement in SQ (Post #3). And UHQCD vs. SHM-CD (Post #636), pointing to a further improvement. Also I spent a lot of time comparing UHQCD vs. SACD (Post #368, 370-372), indicating that UHQCD came very close to SACD sound. And UHQCD with FORS system came maximum close to SACD. I'm glad that we have a member and a big UHQCD enthusiast Andymodern (not to be confused with Andymion), who is directly involved in the UHQCD production in Hong Kong and Japan. He conducted the test Pt SHM-CD vs. UHQCD at the Munich Hi-End Show (Post #373). Andymodern found time to leave a couple of comments for the thread (Post # 458, 459). When the MQA broke through, it was meant for streaming and downloading first of all. And, as a physical media guy, I felt like discriminated. Now Uni has chose UHQCD as carrier for MQA files in the new Hi-Res CD project. I personally invested heavily in SACD playback and I should resist the project, but I am a believer... I believed SHM, Pt SHM and UHQCD, and I believe in MQA too. You will read many unpleasant things about MQA, but mostly from people who have never heard it. (People are social animals - just one of them throws a stone they all do the same, and everyone tries to hit harder.) I do not have MQA playback, and I have no plans to buy it until the new format becomes a real thing. Nevertheless, I am buying new releases (new recordings and remasters) of my favorites anyway... If the new format will lead to new remasters... so let they be MQA capable. Let they be a Hi-Res CD. Maybe someday the industry will offer something suitable for my system... In a mean time, I will listen to them only as UHQCD. (For a long time I could not even listen to the SHM-SACD at all, but I was buying them regardless...) As for a "slim case packaging", I asked about Japanese dealer, he had no idea. I think of something like re-shaped Jewel case, but it's my guess only...
Toilet Doctor:- Thanks for collating all these lists. These have prompted me to seek out a couple of original CDs to compare against my SHM-SACDs. When I've received these I'll post my own, far shorter, list.
Simple question. The UHQCD of Who's Next is going to sound better than the 2010 SHM SACD I already have ?
I assumed that you asked about new Hi-Res CD, which is MQA-UHQCD. Beside Uni, no one has tried these discs yet. However, my guess is: If you listen to it only as UHQCD without MQA-decoding, SHM-SACD will sound better, but UHQCD will be close in SQ to SHM-SACD. Thus, these discs are great for those who don't have SACD playback. With MQA decoding it could sound slightly clearer than SHM-SACD version. But that likely may not worth to upgrade. Conclusion: Stay where you are. From another point of view: You do have Who's Next 2010 SHM-SACD and (just imagine) Blu-ray Audio version of the same master. Now, a simple question: Will Blu-ray Audio sound better? It will, if your Blu-disc player is better quality then your SACD player and can squeeze more info/details from the disc. Even in the same universal player as Oppo, different circuits for different playback will read info in different ways. Conclusion: Select the best sounding album and try two versions in your system. Generally, these new Hi-Res CDs are of interest to us for new titles such as Steely Dan Royal Scam - the current bestseller in Japan or for a new transfer, such as Free Fire and Water, with the hope (just a hope) of improving SQ.
