I find it funny when people say they like 'mid-period' Mac but hate (on) the Nicks/Buckingham years. Because this stuff is pretty much the same. Languid, drugged out Cali vibes (straight outta Hampshire, England by the way) and a lightness of touch that belies the heart of darkness that beats underneath it. Lovely stuff.
Kudos to Fleetwood for recognizing this vibe in B/N and to Lindsay for knowing to go with the flow. Must visit this Hampshire place someday.
Had to pull out something nasty and noisy after reading the favorite Thin Lizzy guitarist-thread. Not recommended for anyone-warning. Burt is in one of his moods again, etc I just gave up on humanity. When people actually think that Lizzy, the most poetic and beautiful of all harder rock bands, were a garden variety metal band... Well, then I can only say ****. Really, boyos.
Finishing disc 2 tonight / within the last 30 minutes is the most intense and simply the best tenor saxophone playing I’ve ever heard plus the most powerful drumming that exists on record. One Archtoppable sequence of about 3-4 minutes that is simply beyond possible. No one has ever played the tenor saxophone with the combination of speed, dexterity and power that the *great* Evan Parker displays here. Very glad I once saw Sanders play live with EP back in May of 2001. Second set was a top 5 set of all-time for me. Maybe the best I’ve heard Evan play live but there were 2-3 other great sets seeing the great man over the years. The last great show for me was September 2013 with 2 different great quartets from a few feet away. I dare one of you Dead lovers to buy this 2 CD set and give it 3 listens loud. 150 minutes x 3. It was once my favorite recording issued in the first half of the 00’s and it still is, I think.
Very hard to pick a favorite Zevon tune- Carmelita speaks loudly as does Desperados, Hasten Down, Nighttime In The Switching Yard, etc. but I think for me Accidentally Like A Martyr gets top billing. But as far as introducing folks to Warren related things, I will break all the rules of this thread and speak to three shows he opened for a certain band in 1980 and give you that have not listened to the opening of 6/8 a (hopefully) lifelong gift... Phil!
started dinner with some local stuff...can't find an image link, so here is discogs Clifton Chenier - Clifton Chenier's Very Best now onto...a 1st Netherlands press of: Interesting...a binaural recording...over headphones...it works in some places very well, the quieter parts, when the background singers come in, etc.
Four listens in, I agree. There is something there. I still prefer the War on Drugs, however, which I feel is in a similar vein.
I've just listened to the stereo 5.1 downmix (extracted from the dvd), and it's pretty revealing, a really nice addition overall. I haven't tried the surround mix yet, so I can't give my opinion, but the original stereo mix included here seems to be, at least to my ears, the best digital version available.
I prefer listening to Sandy on winter, but since the air conditioner is on... One of the most beautiful voices ever.
