It''s freaking freezing here in New Jersey. Listening to Bevis Frond New River Head Far East Family Band Parallel World In Zaire White Sun, Black Sun
It's still about 15C over here. And I live at the 59th parallel. Anchorage Alaska is at 61... All thanks to the gulf stream of Mexico I hit shuffle on spotify and it gave me Robert Plant, Todd Rundgren, The Who and Faces in the last quarter
Not too bad, but hey, I'm North of the North Actually, I think at least 40 cm of snow has melted in the last four or five days and the roads are finally bare. Up here spring and fall last about one week each, the rest is either winter or summer. Damn, I spilled some Guinness on my green Alligator t-shirt Listening to disc four on the Miles Plugged Nickel set. Love the ambience! The loud crowd and all the extra noises from the room makes this feel like one on the more real live releases I've ever heard.
And now I don't know if I'm gonna put on Zombie by Fela Kuti or some really bad hair metal... Struggle every day. Edit: went for Mirage by the Mac again. Great record! On the plus side I bought close to 40 jazz albums today No more purchases until after my holiday in July. Other than if I find the Miles Montreux-box for a pretty penny and if the Dead releases something limited. Or at least that is what I'll tell myself...
Gerry Hemingway Quintet: The Marmalade King Genius music of the highest order P.S. this is today’s Proclamation
If one wanted to get ONE album as an intro to Feli Kuti, what would folks here recommend? A compilation would be fine. I only ask because I trust you lot of crazies.
Since almost every record he ever did consisted of two long tracks, that is probably a good place to start. Anthology 1 and 2 are both great, IMO. The first one is cheap at Amazon too. The other is not This one seems like a cheaper solution as an introduction, even if the tracks are edited: The Best Best of Fela Kuti - Wikipedia Edit: and if you are going for an album, I'd say either Zombie or Expensive ****.
Above many, these two 1968 releases put me right on the west coast, the same year right in California. Must have been a very interesting time. These albums are full of 'good times' tunes.
That's the one I have. It has over 2.5 hours of Fela on 2CDs. That's a hefty chunk of Afrobeat jamming, edits or not...
1st press of this on the headphones tonight.... Can't think of one sub-par thing this band has ever done.
Checking out As the Crow flies. Chris Robinson is the greatest frontman since Mick Jagger. And he sounds great here. Much better than the live concert movie from 2005 for example. Band needs to gel together a bit more though. They rehearsed for just a week and it shows, but I'm sure they're getting there. I don't know if they want to copy Black Crowes as close as possible or not. Probably better to not do that. Rich Robinson's riffs and rhythm ain't easy to nail I think. Open G man! Almost cut my hair was a great choice, and it blends in well with Good Friday. I would definitely go see this if he came across the ocean to the old world
Sitting on my friends deck, enjoying the view over the great big lake that surrounds the area where we live. Drinking a cold one and listening to his playlist which so far has featured mostly 60s California pop/rock but just now, Bob Seger turned up! Have a great weekend folks!
Ha en dejlig afton herr Norge! Ska blanda till en gin och tonic nu. Skål! I'm making a note about that Miles record. Not sure if I've heard that one
