Slighty off on a tangent: This is the picture that was copied as a drawing on the front of Sonic Youth's Goo. It actually features the sister of infamous UK Moors Murderer Myra Hindley.
Here's the same scene shot from a different angle: ... and here's the "Little Deuce Coupe" car as it looks today:
I should point out (nitpick) that neither is likely the uncropped photo. Less cropped, sure - "Shut Down" opens up the top and left of the image, but if you look closely, "Little Deuce Coupe"s cover has more car to the right of the tire.
Undermining my own topic, but here is an alternate shot from the same session that produced Miles Davis' Milestones cover... Couldn't find the thread with alternate cover shots.
Despite the unpleasant subject matter, that IS a totally cool photo. I bet those people like the Velvet Underground. It kinda looks like he's hugging the car (not that I would blame him!). Miles smiles! Now there's something you don't see every day.
Below is the uncropped original. It shows more of bassist Bill Black to the right, the hands of Scotty Moore on the guitar to the left, and some members of the audience (top right) at Fort Homer Hester Amory in Tampa, Florida on July 31, 1955.
More Beatles . . . this time the Rubber Soul album cover. The original photo of the Fab Four (top), taken at Ringo's house in Surrey, was cropped and stretched for the classic LP cover (bottom).
The "Little Deuce Coupe" was featured on the cover of HOT ROD Magazine, July 1961, with owner "Chili" Catallo.
This was probably posted many times on this forum but..... never too much Beatles. And, of course, it's another alternate version or out take.
I'm not sure that is exactly the same picture......looks like an alternate shot from the same session, or else some serious manipulation has been done to the photo. Notice John's hand is above the mic in the top picture, but behind the mic in the full shot. Also, notice the difference in the position of the mic against the front of the guitar. The shadows are different on John's shirt, and the shadow of the mic stand on John's face has been removed (although not completely). Also, in the top picture, the neck of John's guitar appears to be pointing down slightly, while in the full shot, it's level. It's either an alternate shot (very close in time), or some photo-shopping has been done.
