Esepcially the white buttons look like something you would use in a studio. =)

Have one of those myself. A pretty solid and hefty unit. Now if you want to see some real cassette deck porn how about a view of the KD-85 undressed. She has a really well built tape transport, hmmm.

This design actually reminds me of the German designers/manufacturer Braun and their 1970s/80s style products.

What's the best common inexpensive deck someone could buy on ebay? Inexpensive means $150 or less.

  8. Just about anything from Onkyo. Especially between 1980-1989.

I loved the look of my old Sony TC-FX45 - for a cheap deck I don't think you could find one that looked any better. I can't find any decent photos of it in a quick search, though, but here's it's auto-reverse sibling, which is virtually identical in appearance apart from the dual play buttons, auto reverse indicators and option mode button.

This was the first cassette deck I can recall drooling over, via an advert in Time Magazine, a Sony TC-K555.

Nice Pioneer. When led meter displays started to be used I thought they were really cool, but now I find myself gravitating towards analog meters.

Mine still works great. I had a 611. too and it was also a tank (it never died, UPS left it outside my door when I was away, you know the rest. . . ). @inperson I wouldn't call this deck of the 611 "common" but they are usually available on ebay for very reasonable prices. I'd give a look.

I sometimes see that these decks were made by Nakamichi, but I'm pretty sure that is not true. It's not a debate I care much about, I've had both and I like both. The nicest thing about their looks is the champagne brushed aluminum faceplates contrasted with real wood side panels. THat's a nice look - and original.

I have an MCS 683-3543. A JC Penney house brand.

I heard MCS stereos were rebadged pieces from other makers. And no doubt, this is actually a Technics M205.

I've always been a Nak freak, but I had to buy one of these on eBay.

I have a couple of Naks (including the CR7A) as well but I always loved the look of that Pioneer CTF-1000. How does it sound?

found one of these in a "Junk day" neighborhood trash pickup, probably 1987...but it didn't work or somehow was already rained out inside....should have kept it maybe had an electronics shop take it apart to dry out :(

Some really cool decks in this Thread, most I have never set eyes on accept this and the Marantz, and Technics models.

Some great decks and photos (and memories)!

When I first got into stereos, I really wanted the super low-profile Sony TC-FX7:
