Ok, now I get to start an Elton thread. There are loads of B-sides, some are terrific, some don't deserve to be on any "side"...

Just a few my favs with the corresponding A-side...

    Tortured/Chloe
    Sugar On The Floor/Island Girl
    I Saw Her Standing There(live w/Lennon)/Philadelphia Freedom
Take Me Down To The Ocean/Empty Garden
Snow Queen/Don't Go Breaking My Heart

I was just going to say that! It was the B-side of "Border Song."

    I also like:
"Whenever You're Ready (We'll Go Steady Again)" (one of two B-sides of "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting")
"Young Man's Blues" (a.k.a. "Screw You") (B-side of "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road")
"I Saw Her Standing There (Live)" (B-side of "Philadelphia Freedom")
"One Day at a Time" (B-side of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds")
"Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (Live)" (B-side of the US 45 of "Made in England")
"Skyline Pigeon" (piano version) (B-side of "Daniel")

Isn't this the only song Elton wrote lyrics for? I think it's pretty bad but I cut him slack after 35 years...

    Not the only one...

He did attempt lyrics on some of his early work, "Come Back Baby" is one that appears on "To Be Continued" and was released as a single when Elton was a member of Bluesology

I enjoy his version of ODAAT better than John's original.

I heard Elton's version of One Day At A Time before John's. And I still prefer Elton's.

So, where can a guy find a copy of Snow Queen? Been looking for that one for a while.

Always had a soft spot for "Hey Papa Legba". Don't know why.

I always love listening to the few non-lp live tracks recorded in Australia but left off the official CD of the same. I think the CD single 'A Word In Spanish' is the one that has them. Going from memory 'Blue Eyes' I know was one of the tracks. Very well recorded. The other two titles escape me at the moment. Also, the live 'Too Low For Zero' is a good b-side. Finally, 'I Heard It Through The Grapevine' live from Wembley Stadium 1984(?) cooks pretty well also.

I was able find a "45" of "Don't Go Breaking My Heart/Snow Queen" with the a green Rocket Label and picture sleeve. Go to this site for all sorts of Elton collectables...

    EltonWrap

Also have "Snow Queen" on a collection of Elton B-sides from 76-82 called "Flip It Over"

wasn't CANDLE IN THE WIND the B side of BENNIE AND THE JETS?

    Never mind!:)

  18. Bennie And The Jets was the b side to Candle In The Wind - DJM DJS29 (U.K.)
In North America MCA released Bennie And The Jets as an A side with Harmony as the b side - MCA 40198
    http://www.eltonography.com/

Some of my favourite b sides include:

Just Like Strange Rain - b side of It's Me That You Need
Bad Side Of The Moon - b side of Border Song
Skyline Pidgeon - b side of Daniel
Jack Rabbit - 1st b side of Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)
Screw You (Young Man's Blues) - b side of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
Ho! Ho! Ho! (Who'd Be A Turkey At Christmas) - b side of Step Into Christmas
I Saw Her Standing There (live w/ John Lennon) - b side of Philidelphia Freedom
Sugar On The Floor - b side of Island Girl
Nice song with Elton, the piano and a wee bit of Davey Johnson on the guitar. Sugar On The Floor was written by Kiki Dee.

Elton John - Rare Masters 2 CD set in the Polygram Chronicles series contains all his b sides up to Sugar On The Floor. The set also includes the complete Friends soundtrack along with a few other goodies.

    Attached Files:

  19. Elton wrote the music and lyrics to his very first solo single in 1968.
    "I've Been Loving You" - "Here's To The Next Time" - Philips BF1643 (U.K.)
Although Bernie is credited along side Elton on the A side, Bernie says in the "Rare Masters" booklet/liner notes that Elton wrote "I've Been Loving You" by himself. The lyrics are OK on both songs.

"...I didn't mean to hurt you
You know it's just my way
Those things that I said yesterday
    Were things I shouldn't say
    Although you're blue
Just one thing I want you to do
    Just forget all those things
    That I said about you

`Cause I've been loving you baby
Loving you baby for a long time
    And if you go away
I just won't know what to do..."

The only thing missing from this set -- and I've yet to see it anywhere on CD -- is the song he sang for the movie The Games called "From Denver to L.A." He was so obscure in the US at the time that the single was issued under the name "Elton JOHNS."

  21. Have a great digital copy of that "Denver To L.A." track. As well as "The Goaldiggers Song".
