For me The Unforgettable Fire is the most beautiful album from U2
It's almost ambient in it's mid section.
It's experimental in form and execution.
It gave the band a wider more abstract sound.
It's their first collaboration with Brian Eno.
The Unforgettable Fire is such a beautiful song
I know that the Joshua tree and achtung baby are the better albums.
But I have more love for the Unforgettable Fire.
It's the album from u2 i grew up with. It sounds have left a footprint in my DNA.

Give me your thoughts about the Unforgettable Fire.

I love the album as well. The only problem is that the live versions of Bad and A Sort of Homecoming on Wide Awake in America are my favorite versions.

It's a great record. I'd rate it second best after The Joshua Tree.

  4. Even though it was my introduction to U2, it's not one of my favourites. Some strong highlights (A Sort Of Homecoming, Pride, Bad, the title track), but also a lot of filler, especially on side 2. A step back after the excellent War and not nearly as great as The Joshua Tree. Apart from October I regard this as the weakest of the 80s U2 albums.

    U talking 2 me?!

This is by far my favorite U2 album. I would in fact not call myself a big U2 fan but this album rises above for me. Joshua Tree is almost as good but I don't need to hear Bullet the Blue Sky and I'm generally not interested in U2's interpretation of Americana. War is too much, too obvious with the politics (tho still very good). The first albums are pretty great, but the songwriting was still a work in progress.

Unforgettable Fire is the purest U2 experience for me... all shimmer and jangle, with hooks and melodies everywhere--by far their most consistent set of melodic compositions. With the added bonus that I have no idea what Bono is talking about on any of these songs! It's a top ten 80s album for me.

Best album cover and best song, Pride. Otherwise I try not to think about it.

It is great from start to finish. As a more coceptual style of work I think its better than the Joshua Tree. The JT may have better songs though.

I think it's OK, maybe even better than OK, but I don't reach for it very often. Achtung Baby is probably my favorite U2 record, followed closely by Joshua Tree and War. I'd put Unforgettable Fire at #4 for me.

My favorite album by what had been my favorite band up until Achtung Baby. For me, The Unforgettable Fire was the last album where U2 still maintained their identity as an Irish rock act. Don't get me wrong, The Joshua Tree is a great record, but the fame it brought the band on a mainstream level was a springboard for the more pure pop records that followed. They found a new audience for that sound -- but I wasn't among it.

The Unforgettable Fire is hands down my favorite song by the band. I sang it to my daughter as a lullaby when she still let me do that.

I think it's great because it's so "under the radar", it's one you can play when you or your company don't want to hear U2. Nice to have a different mood/sound. Disclosure: I've never been a fan of 'Pride'

Count me too as this being my favorite U2 album, a close combination of logical progression with a bit of a left turn. Equally beautiful and brilliant!

TUF was the 1st album I bought by U2 in early '85; it's my favourite album of theirs. The production is stunning and I love all the songs especially the title track and Bad.

My favorite U2 album, easily. Absolutely love the atmosphere of it. Plus, we used to live in Slane, albeit it was more than 15 years after they recorded there :)

That kind of put them solidly on the radar in the US didn't it?

Yeah, I'd almost call it The Forgettable Fire, because I tend to do just that. It gets overshadowed, for me, by the albums that bookend it, not that I dislike it.
