Joy Division - The Eternal. Make sure you don't have any sharp objects near you when you listen to this.

Also make sure there isn't any rope or trees around when you listen to just about anything Ian Curtis did. I always find it astounding that menbers of Joy Division went on to become New Order. Totally upbeat music that started a revolution. When Joy division gets me down, I listen to new Order. Can't help but dance....Age of Consent! YEAH

But really, this song tears me apart. Man

Hm, what are songs of dying dogs? I can think of Shannon (which is extremely sad), but that's it. Wildfire which is about a horse..

Any others? And what about cats?

Oh dear God. I listened to this song after not hearing it for a long time. Oh my god, it ripped my heart out. I couldn't finish it. There was obviously a lot of emotion by the writer.

Great, will someone give me an upbeat song. That messed me up!

Oh, come on, it's not that bad. I mean, with songs like "Stupid Hoe" out there, "Walk of Life" is downright refreshing.

I like his 'tribute' to Jimmy Webb (the song's author) during the spoken intro.

No One Said It Would Be Easy - Sheryl Crow.

(A personal time and place song. It always reminds me of being in a truly awful, stuck in a rut relationship. It is still one of my favourite Crow songs though. I always feel her first few albums are criminally underrated.)

Michael and Peter - Frank Sinatra.

The first one I thought of when I saw this title is "So Sad (To Watch Good Love Go Bad)" by the Everlys.

I have many, but if I had to distill them all down to one it'd be:

Definitely from a musical, for me:
    West Side Story - Somewhere
Les Miserables - Bring Him Home
A Chorus Line - What I Did For Love
Jesus Christ Superstar - Could We Start Again, Please?

Understandable. It's a difficult album to play at the best of times. I don't think I could face it right now.

Once I read the story of how Bobby Whitlock came to write it the song became a whole lot sadder to me.
