Found this BBC documentary last night on Pepper 50. It's quite well made and focuses on the composition & recording technique innovations on the record.

Sorry if its a repost but I didn't have the energy to dig through the old, now closed thread.

 

The original stereo mix also provides the most bite for George's guitar. But at the same time, the overall track is quite lopsided on the '67 which the new remix fixes by centering the drums and panning the lead guitars. I see no reason to stick to either, rather pick one that suits the mood on the day

I don't know if you guys heard the news?.... Giles Martin has stated in a recent interview of Unsatisfied Moaning Audiophiles Magazine that 2017 mix of Pepper was just him fooling around - a test run. The real remix of pepper will be out in the summer. It will be mixed on a REDD board from the original analog tapes. And a special limited edition direct to disk record will be available to 5 000 lucky audiophiles. The new stereo mix will be cut direct from the stereo output of the REDD mixing board.

If only this was true....but it isn't...and it never will be.

Of all the Beatle albums to be remixed they choose this one? Rubber Soul should've been Giles' first choice. Real easy to remix that one. Take the lead vocals and panned them to the middle and every thing else can go right....and left. I am dreaming.

 

Wasn't the 87 version just a transfer from the original stereo master?

 

What?! (Crying on the floor) Why would they put any limiting on high definition Blu-Ray disks?...Only audiophiles listen to those. And no audiophile wants limiting on cd let alone high definition files.
