I want this: A friend of mine back in the 1980s had this McIntosh hooked up to Alison speakers. It was heaven. I don't know what became of him, but I hope the McIntosh and Alisons are okay.
You know, I've been wanting a Mac since the 1970s. They were always priced really, really high. Are they still manufacturing them?
Absolutely. All Mac components are still manufactured in Binghamton NY. Mac does not rebadge any foreign-made components ...
But they've converted to digital technology, right? What about the tubes? Their reputation has always been impeccable, I know. What speakers have you married to your Mac?
The Mac 1900 is getting way over-priced...Current ebay listings are as high as $1800. I have actually taken mine out of service and currently using my Onkyo integrated amp.
Well, they did at one time. Ever hear of 'Stereo Tech"? And I'm not sure if the short-lived Mac car audio components were made in Binghamton.
My Marantz 2265b out of service for now. Needs to be recapped and gone through. I did put led lights in a couple years ago. The reason the 2265b is out of service. Just got my 1964 Fisher 500c back with all new tubes. This thing was a garage sale find (50.00) about 5 years ago and well worth the money getting it back up and running. Its in my living room and the sound is wonderful. I know not a receiver but my main system is McIntosh C28 and MC 2505 amp driving Klipsch Quartet
Stereo Tech was McIntosh's short-lived venture begun in the mid 1970s into Japanese manufactured, Binghamton designed mid-line HiFi. Stereotech 1200 Stereo Technology Division
It was no doubt marketed separately as I used to receive Mac brochures through the 80's and 90's but never saw Stereo Tech products mentioned in them ...
The 1200 was surprisingly well built, and well reviewed at the time. I passed on one or two over the years, as at the time they were going for about the same $ as the very similar, contemporaneous 1900. I do happen to have one or two pairs of Stereo Tech speakers, though. Very, very heavy, and also well built.
lol. Tis a sickness my friend. I have a 2 bedroom apartment, and 3 audio systems. The Marantz doesn't get as much love as I'd like but I do listen to it a couple of times a month. When I'm more focused on the music and want to lay down and close my eyes and drift off, the vintage system is my go to.
LOL! I live in a 4-bedroom house and every bedroom has an audio system and of course the living room has its own audio system ...
Imgur Just the one. Champagne and engraved face Marantz 2230. Fully recapped and all new transistors. Currently not being used and have not used it in over a year. Just an ornament at this time.
The phono stage on my Nakamichi TA-2A was far superior compared to my parents' old Hitachi HTA-4F, which it was quite a revelation in comparison using Joe Henderson's Page One (Music Matters Jazz) LP to test the sound quality! It provided very nice clean sound for my matching Nakamichi CDP-2A CD player, making it a real joy to listen to.

I have to decide if I want to spend some money to overhaul my Tandberg TR-2075MKII, the immediate predecessor to the TR-2080 ...
Make sure you listen to one before you buy one. I bought 3 Tandberg's from a collector all in Original Boxes...they looked awesome. Then I plugged them in and auditioned them....got rid of all within a week. Don't have 1 good thing to say about the way they sound.
