Picked up this Kenwood KR 6030 today, I was a bit surprised at the quality of sound coming out of it. 80 watts into 8 ohm, 100 watts into 4 ohm. I've seen a lot of differing opinions on this unit, from great to just ok. I find it to be pretty decent, certainly better than ok, maybe not to the level of great. For what I paid for it, which was nothing, traded a pair of Pioneer speakers for it, I am more than happy. Ran it through some Wharfedale Diamond 10.1's. Showed great clarity of tone, very nice detail, perhaps some may call it analytical, but I like that more than overly colored.Anyways, first impressions are good and I'll keep this one. May take out the Teac A3440 out of hibernation, and match these up. Also will try a few different sets of speakers with it.
Where are you gonna to find a brand-new receiver these days that is as cool as one of these vintage receivers?
I own a very ugly NAD 7225PE reciever that works well after an internal overhaul which is more than adequate for my needs as a secondary system. What would I love to have is the old Marantz 2275 with an immaculate or newly refurbished wood cabinet. The old commercial in Life magazine of one being retrieved from a house fire and just plugged in and turned on to work really made an impression on me.
I've got a 1989 Sony mid range receiver - bought it new from Circuit City. It sounds surprisingly good really. Nice amp. Still sounds like the day I bought it.
Lafayette Radio Electronics - Wikipedia So Lafayette Radio stores were sold to Circuit City. No wonder the onetime Union Square store in NYC was renamed as a Circuit City store ...
I found this beast at a yard sale a while back for $40. It works pretty well. Pioneer SX-9000 Reverberation Stereo Receiver.
I had a very nice 2000x that I sold in a downsizing mode about five years ago.Eventually came to regret it.This receiver made a set of DIY alnico speakers in big cabinets sound soooo good playing a Mapleshade sampler jazz cd..Came a cross a thrift 5000x recently but it had static in one channel and just didn't sound right.Sold it shortly thereafter as one of the downside of vintage is age and deteriorating parts and lack of qualified techs in my area. These are very nice sounding units when functioning properly.
I had an excellent tech in my area, a fellow named Ron [Jblmar on Audiokarma] who sadly passed away. He did the work on my 2000X about 5 years ago and it's been nothing but bliss ever since. I'm glad I found Mike Urban in W. Hartford, Conn. Not exactly around the corner like Ron but for the right piece he's worth the trip. He recently got my Kenwood KW-60 sounding real nice.
Is it unusual for DC Offset to be perfect, I checked mine tonight on a recently picked up Kenwood KR 6030 and it was 0.00. I would expect it to be off a little, or not?
