I like them both- they're apples and oranges to me, though.

As far as I am concerned his 60's output does not represent him. Stevie as the artist I know and love began with 1972's "Music of my Mind".

"Ebony and Ivory" is a perfect song as pop goes.

"Corny" synth noises? I guess you wouldn't dig Tangerine Dream or even Yes or Genesis for that matter.

One song to check out is "What's that you're doin?" by Stevie & McCartney from the "Tug of war" album. Obviously this was more Stevie than Paul, and what a FUNKY song....Produced by Sir George Martin Too!

I'm not a fan of Tangerine Dream or Yes but I love Genesis. (PG era) :)

Love me some 80's boogie/funk/soul! Phat synth bass and 16 bar synth solos for days....

Yep...you are a rock dude. Remember, Synths are important instruments and can give you many more textures than guitars, organs, & pianos can.

Prefer the Collins era myself. His voice was easier to take than Peter's.

It's the opposite for me. Don't get me wrong Phil's a talented man but I wasn't too fond of the direction Genesis went after Duke.

I've heard this said ad nauseum for 25 years. I simply don't agree, but to each his own. Phil is my favorite drummer ever too.
And yes, I like Mike & The Mechanics too. Nothing wrong with well crafted pop music!

You have your fans that prefer their progressive rock sound and others that prefer their pop tunes. Then their are the fans that enjoy both. (lucky them)
To each it's own. I have everything except for Calling All Stations. :p

Nothing wrong with liking both...I love fusion, prog rock, funk, and good ol pop. (NOT today's pop of course)

Sorry not for me. Motown has many perfect pop songs, all packed with cathchy tunes and clever lyrics, but Ebony and Ivory sounds to me as well crafted as a nursery rhyme, and worse than that a nursery rhyme about the complex issue of race relations. But I admit it Wonder is probably my least favourite major soul artist and I am not much of a McCartney fan either.

For Your Love is the last one I remember, and I quite liked it.

"Overjoyed" was the last big hit I remember of Stevie's. I remember it getting a lot of airplay (especially on the Adult Contemporary stations) when it was a single. And not surprisingly, it went to #1 on the AC chart. I remember "For Your Love" getting some airplay when it was out in the mid-90's, but not anywhere near as much as "Overjoyed".

If you are speaking of 60's Motown, you can keep it!
Least favorite soul artst? wow...the dude brought jazz stylings into soul music like no other before him.

That song was everywhere back in the day. You had to actually try to not hear it.
