What's the deal with the new Sgt. Pepper... CD I saw @ Border's Yesterday? I tried looking up the info through Amazon & Cdnow, But had no luck getting details on this. It doesn't look like a japanese import & the CD looks the same as the standard release, except for the packaging. It comes in a slip case with a booklet and is priced at ~$28.00 !!
Has anyone else seen this CD? What's special about this? ¿Anyone?

The slipcase packaging is standard for Sgt Pepper in the UK and Australia. The booklet is nearly the same as the US, except it has a couple of extra pages in full colour as well as the "cut-outs" on the last page of the booklet as a fold out. The CD "booklet" is the picture identifying who is on the cover. The country of manufacture is usually mentioned on the slip case. My guess is it's a UK import at that price - the Australian should be cheaper. Try Sanity and see if they will export.

Actually Ralpho I've seen the one you are talking about before in a small Chinese CD store. Very limited Rock section. I believe that it was a Hong Kong pressing but I'd really be curious to know more like the catalogue # and what label. If you get a chance, take a look and let us know.

Hey that's the usual retail price of a DCC gold CD. Slipcase too!

Maybe Steve's been working on a secret project! ;)

But seriously, I agree with John, that is the standard packaging here in Australia. I have always assumed it was the same in the States.

    Peter,
the US CD comes with a booklet that says "see back of outer box for Sgt Pepper cut-outs" These were on the long boxes originally, but are not present in the US CD booklet. The UK and Australian booklets have a quadruple fold extra last page that has pictures of the cut-outs. The photos seem to be a little clearer on my copy also (I think the booklet may be printed in the UK)
It's a very nice packaage, but the mastering is the same.

Sure is, but it's a real tight fit into the wooden box (the box that the complete Beatles CD set comes in).

Was that wooden box and the accompanying booklet sold in the US? It's quite an impressive package.

In answer to your question: yes, the wooden box CD set of all the Beatles albums is available as a US product. You can get it from Amazon.com

I purchased this CD a while back. It had a "Made In England" sticker on the outside of the packaging, but the disc had "Manufactured In Italy" on it. A friend of mine owns it now......and he thanks me nearly every day. When Public Broadcasting aired "The Making of Sgt. Pepper" several years back, during some of Ringo's interviews, it looks like he has a slipcase issue of the album on a table next to him.....at least it looks THICKER than a standard jewelcase edition.

As is the case with many other titles, the "British" Beatles CD's are actually manufactured in various places throughout the European Union (EU). I've been to various countries in Europe and all the Beatles CD's are idential to the UK versions. I have some which state they are manufactured in the UK, whilst others in Holland or Italy.

Check your box again--the slot for Sgt. Pepper is actually LARGER to fit the slipcase! BTW, the UK booklet is printed unbelievably better than the US one--look at the small B&W pictures--almost black on the US, fully detailed on the UK. Also, the color scheme of the BG pages is all messed up on the US, due to the removal of the cut-outs---on the UK, facing pages are the same color, on the US they are not. The UK book is also larger due to it being outside the CD rather than in the jewel box.
When the box 1st came out, they were also sold without any CDs for about $50.00 for obsessives like me who already had all the discs but HAVE to have a box set!
Now, how many of you out there have the Anthology slipcase that fits all 3 volumes & was given out at certain record stores when Vol.3 came out? One of my most prized Beatle items, and it's only a ****ty little piece of cardboard!

Couple of months after Antholgy 3 came out, a local NJ store had some behind the counter. I was buying a Beatles cd
for a present and when I asked what it was, cashier put one in the bag for me. That's what I call Customer Service..lol
