Third World War’s first LP, brand new for fifteen shillings from the record stall in Hemel Hempstead market, in the days when albums were over £2. A speculative buy, because I’d not heard it, or even heard of the band, but I love it.

You may have bought it from me. Though $2 seems a little low if the album was in good shape.

I buy lots of records for .69 to $1.50 from thrifts, yard sales etc. So in better condition than others. There were 5 or 6 1960s Buck Owens and the Buckaroos that I paid .75 each that I really like. I'm not a big jazz fan but I really like the Thelonious Monk, Straight, No Chaser album I got for about $1.00 a couple of months ago.

My store was in the city when the yacht craze was full swing. Are we talking Albert King - Born Under A Bad Sign. You could have bought that new for well less than $35 in 1986.

Found an unsealed copy of Nilsson's Pandemonium Shadow Show with a huge "39 " in black marker on the back,at Philly's old Radio 437. And yes,it was 39 cents. I suspect an instore play copy since the shrink was missing, but it came home in 1970,around the same time(maybe same day,it was a big record buying spree, playing hooky from college) I found a promo stamped copy of Aeriel Ballet for maybe two bucks,my usual price that would trigger a purchase, but at least I already had heard "Everybody's Talkin' ".

I found an excellent original copy of Badfinger Straight Up album in a box of records stashed under the racks, along with a bunch of crappy albums at a local record store. Unbelievably it was marked .10 on the tag. I kid you not, ten cents! At the time I didn't really know the album, but remember being curious about it in the past, and of course for that price, say no more, right? Imagine my surprise when I played this album and discover how amazing it is! It's one of my all time faves now, and what a fun way to discover it. :agree:

I always thought new was original. The US version of that album could have been bought at that time for well less than $35.

I am well past looking at the price of used vinyl

    The store was Playback Records

    I was there 1984 - 1990. I think it had closed down by 2002 (I suspect 1995).

I'm not fussed with original pressings etc. I'm in it for music & I'm not a collector. I prefer CD's anyhow.
