What's your favorite R.E.M. album? (Poll)

Automatic For The People, with Fables, New Adventures and Document as runners-up.

 

Voted for Fables but given how good many of their albums are, it could have been almost any of them. New Adventures is brilliant, Murmur is amazing. A lot depends on my mood and what I've most recently listened to from them. I really love Chronic Town though, so if that had been on the list I probably would have picked that.

 

One of the best catalogues ever. Except for "Around the sun", I think all of their albums range from excellent to masterpiece.

Today I'm voting for "New adventures in hi-fi", bought on release day and a fave of mine since then

 

I voted for Fables Of The Reconstruction ...to me it a perfect album to play after I listen Neil Young Time Fades Away , its keeps that vibe going dark and murky .

 

Hi-Fi, with the '86-'88 albums vying for 2nd.

Chronic Town through Lifes Rich Pageant is one of the great runs any band ever had. I'll pick all of them.

 

Around the Sun is in my top five REM albums.

 

I do not begrudge anyone for having a fondness for the album...but R.E.M.'s best?!?

Reckoning and out of time for me.

 

Reckoning (never understood why this one doesn't get more respect, it beats the so called sophomore jinx to a pulp) followed closely by Murmur (and Chronic Town)

The rest would be some changing order of the remaining IRS albums plus Green and Automatic, all of which have grEt stuff but are too inconsistent in my eyes to compete with the first 2.5 (probably by design, as what I consider to be the strong/weak aspects of their attempts to mix things up could easily be what some else thinks are the weak/strong aspects)
