That blazing fire engine red on their first lp is tricky to photograph accurately.
I think Remain In Light might be a pop. fave as I notice vinyl copies don't stick around long, I voted for Fear Of Music for reasons that would be too boring to go through so I suppose that's my fave.
So many hits! Electric Guitar, Air, Mind and Drugs of course.

Forget what's popular. That album fills me with joy each time I listen to it. It's funky as hell!

I like Speaking in Tongues a lot, but the way the band performs several of its songs in Stop Making Sense renders the studio versions a little boring for me. :hide:

(It reminds me a little of the relationship between Deep Purple's Machine Head and Made in Japan. The first is great, but man those live versions on Japan...)

At the moment my favorite Heads album is Remain in Light, on the strength of its galvanic first side. That could change in a few weeks, as I picked More Songs in a previous poll. :)

    I, too, voted for "SIT"!
It's that 'sweet spot' of 'going pop' w/o leaving the 'groove' behind.
It's also the first TH album I got when it was released!
I got the limited edition 'art cover' with the clear vinyl!

Little Creatures. My favorite Talking Heads release is actually the expanded version of The Name Of This Band, but I don't vote for compilations in best album polls.

I feel like it's a return to where they left off in 77. They departed ways with Eno and celebrated by jamming out and creating a party album. :bdance:
They're more polished, skilled and experienced now and all of that shows in the music. It just sounds like a band having fun and doing what they love.

I almost picked Fear Of Music, but Remain In Light is pure brilliance.

I like the first one. They got all artsy after that.

Fear of Music and Remain in Light are 1 and 1A for me. Voted Fear of Music because it's the Talking Heads album I return to most and I think it's their best collection of songs. But "Once in a Lifetime," "Crosseyed and Painless," "The Great Curve" and "Houses in Motion" are pretty incredible too, but more so for their sheer groove than as songs. Also really like 77.

Funny, I always thought of their first album as their most artsy. Not surprising from a band formed by a bunch of recent art school students.

The inclusion of "The Name Of This Band..." throws me because it really is a great overview of early live Talking Heads. If I only owned one Talking Heads album, I would pick this one.....but "Remain In Light" is the classic studio release for me so I picked that.

I have to go with 'Stop Making Sense', the album that made me love the band. I think that David's vocals were amazing and that most of the songs never sounded better.

Remain in Light is so breathtakingly inventive, it has to be my number 1. However, my number 2 would be....wait for it (drum-roll)....Naked. A hugely underrated record in my book.

    Amazing band, amazing catalogue.

Remain in Light for me because it is an all time classic and sounds quite unlike anything else.

Other albums I fondly keep coming back to are:

    Stop Making Sense
    The Name of this Band....
    Little Creatures
    Fear of Music
    Naked

The rest of the albums I could do with a refresher on and currently enjoying just that.

    I can't choose only one.

    My favorites are

    Buildings and Food
    Remain In Light
    Speaking In Tongues
    Name Of The Band

  24. "Little Creatures" got my vote, but... both "Remain In Light" & "Speaking In Tongues" were closer runners up... love the whole rest of the catalog too...

I hardly listen to the studio albums anymore. The Name of This Band... and Stop Making Sense cover most of what I like.
