This is the third thread that I've mentioned John Mayall Plays John Mayall in threads, so far today - so it must be a favourite at the moment. I've played it quite a bit on the headphones (late at night and lying in bed) since I got it a few weeks back. It's arguable that it's not all blues though as it has its lighter moments like his own Crocodile Walk.
Freddy Cannon: Freddie (sic) Cannon/Action (2001 See For Miles 2fer UK CD - albums originally released in 1964 and 1965, with 6 bonus tracks.) Something I grabbed last week for 50p - and why not? Actually, I remembered his name from a single we had at home of Way Down Yonder In New Orleans and of course he had a bit hit with Palisades Park as well...Tallahassee Lassie was another biggie. I'll be looking for a compilation with those on as they're not included here. This is quite enjoyable and notice from the tracklist on the album where Warners spelled his name wrong he covers a couple of very famous tracks by a band that's oft discussed here - interesting as he must have been one of the first from the US to do this.
Ooops - fair point. This is the second time in the last few weeks that I've posted something in the wrong thread - should have been here - http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threa...g-to-now-part-52.456981/page-34#post-12898136 So my apologies for this and that'll teach me to keep a load of browser windows open; though I think I said the same last time...
For you Buddy Guy and vinyl junkies I just got a notice from Pop Market. Four Buddy LP sets (Born To Play Guitar, Rhythm & Blues, Skin Keep and Live At Legends - which is pressed on blue vinyl) for $79.99. Looks like they are all double LPs. https://www.popmarket.com/buddy-guy...9?feature-name=today-s-deal&feature=117600688
I picked this up used today -- Mayall really tried to do something different with this one. The bass player is really good at holding down the rhythm:
Today I need to do some reorganizing and shuffling of discs in my collection as the "Blues" section has run out of space.
Hello, "Roots & Branches" by Robin Trower. Considering it's his renditions of other folks tunes, he makes them all his own, & is quite intent listening... (I know he's got a new album out right now, but I don't have it just yet). Cheers, Gregster
I haven't picked up his latest yet either. Just when I had finally completed the Trower discography, he puts out another album! He's still putting out great stuff, no doubt.
Just listened to Otis Rush, The Essential Otis Rush: The Classic Cobra Recordings 1956-1958 for the first time. Wow.
This is the one I got as it has all of the Cobra sides, including the outtakes, in good sound quality. I just had to have the whole enchilada! Other releases seem to be (frustratingly) missing a track or two. 1. I Can't Quit You Baby 2. Sit Down Baby 3. Violent Love 4. My Love Will Never Die 5. Groaning The Blues 6. If You Were Mine 7. Love That Woman 8. Jump Sister Bessie 9. Three Times A Fool 10. She's A Good Un 11. It Takes Time 12. Checking On My Baby 13. Double Trouble 14. Keep On Loving Me Baby 15.
