Was Simon Phillips enough of a veteran drummer in 1980 for consideration? I know Aynsley Dunbar was. I think Dunbar could have held his own in L.Z., and maybe Phillips.

I tend to agree with this. If Bonham didn’t die and they continued Jimmy probably wouldn’t have lasted to much longer with the heroin addiction he had.

Another great choice. Aynsley was a beast.

None of the above. The only one with any degree of the Bonham feel was the late Bobby Chouinard IMO.

They’re both drummers. Drummers are 100% replaceable. Both of them are replaceable.

Tony Thompson. He definitely had that muse. "Addicted To Love"? Bonham would have loved hearing that.

  8. Honestly, no. What makes him distinctive is what he plays (his "chops"). Not his sound. But of course it's just my opinion and perception.

As I recall, Phil Collins was the least of Zeppelin's problems.

Old Page had been toasted for years when Bonham died. But only one of those things made them actually break up. Would you care to guess which one? I could give you a hint or two, no fear.

You see when I hear Zeppelin live, "super tight band" is not always the first thing that comes to my mind. They could be pretty sloppy, especially Mr Page.

Zeppelins performance at Live Aid was probably as sloppy as many performances they had given in the past ....just this one was captured on TV and somebody had to be the scapegoat.

If so interested. He’s just as good (if not better).

You should've noted in your edit that your addendum was indeed, an edit.

Now it looks like I only quoted a poration of your post, when you initially simply posted "Keith Moon", which, given the premise advised, the logical inference that anyone would surmise is that you were suggesting replacing a deceased drummer with someone deceased two years prior...

So it's not because anyone thought you were "stupid"; it's just that I couldn't read your mind.

  20. How about Roger Taylor of Queen? Just take a look at this video (especially the reprise section from about 4:50 onward) and tell me you can't hear Bonham's influence all over these triplet tom fills:

Gov't Mule's Matt Abst could now; his whole style of drumming is based on Bonham's

What would the classified ad read like?

'Internationally known rock band seeks drummer to replace deceased skin beater. Have own label and shows lined up. No druggies or attitudes.'
