It was the first media player I knew of and imo the best...but I am apprehensive what winamp's new owners are going to do to it.

Has anyone heard any winamp rumours?

I use it whenever I play music files. The lyric plug-in is great.

I find it's a simple to use out of the box player that sounds great playing anything I shove into it.
There is quite a bit of work going on into the newer version as Aol's throwing it under a bus, even if the patient was rescued, leaves issues around say paying for licenses for things such as databases but the general drift is that they wish to steer it more toward being an high quality audio player first and foremost .
They do have a forum where updates are being posted on a regular basis.

Foobar here too. Could never go back to Winamp. Tried to for nostalgia sake, but nope. Plus Foobar can play and do anything I throw at it.

I am curious, as winamp has always played anything I asked it to. Are there files that winamp does not play?

I still use Winamp as well. It's probably not the best media player but I've been using it for over ten years now. I really hope it's new owners keep it going and improve it.

I wouldn't have a clue. Haven't used it in years. The plus side of Winamp though is that It plays video files.

I use it, since it will play .ape files, which is what I use for both my music and archiving. It's the old version, 5.35. I like its simplicity, and it simply does what I ask it to do... play music files without a bunch of things clinging to it.

I still use it when I want to play files. I bought JRiver Media player, but don't see or hear anything there that I like better than Winamp.

I used to love WinAmp as a reasonable replacement for iTunes on Windows. Since moving over Macintosh, I don't use it that much but I do have it. When did AOL dump Winamp?

I can't remember the last time I used Winamp.
Can't remember if I even still have the program.

Me too; if a clueless, technologically-challenged clumsy bugger like me can use it without any problems, it MUST be idiot proof.

Let me preface that by saying I do all my listening on Foobar, I haven't figured out how to burn cd's on it yet

I moved over to MediaMonkey about 8 years ago now. Haven't used Winamp much in years. It used to get fired up under certain circumstances, but even that was long (3-4 years) ago.

It was my go-to media player in the olden days...

I was a die hard Winamp user, loved the easy UI....but that was a number of years ago, Foobar just sounds much better to me and that took It's place.
