Frog Eyes opening for Cat Power. Young & Sexy opening for Modest Mouse Artists like these should never have been signed. Just horrible on all accounts.
I saw Redbone around 1970 a few times in Philly at festivals -- they were great. Didn't know at the time that Pat and Lolly Vegas were respected L.A. musicians.
In about 1977 I went to a concert that was SUPPOSED to be Little River Band followed by Maria Muldaur followed by the main act, Jackson Browne. LRB pulled out at the last minute because guess what, an opening had sprung up in the US and they smelled international success, so their Perth fans were left in the lurch. I never quite forgave them for that. Anyway, the promoter managed at short notice to rustle up a local act I had never heard of, and have never heard of since. They were called The Katzenjammer Kids, and they were pretty dire. I made some comment to people around me that about the band and a guy piped up "They're great aren't they? One of my mates is in this band." I buttoned my lip. Fortunately, the other two acts made up for it. When I saw Porcupine Tree in 2010 in Melbourne, the support act was Sleep Parade. Never was a band more inaptly named. I have little patience with people who make fairly ordinary music and turn up the volume at deafening levels to compensate. PT's volume was much lower - that band's music speaks for itself, it does not need to be thrust at you at high volume.
Kanye West opening for U2, 2006. Luckily for Kanye, I think the distance from the front barrier to the stage discouraged punters from trying their arm with some form of projectile. I think he was chosen by U2 ......... dumb move.
I have seen Ron Sexsmith, and have his records. A songwriter's songwriter, who most definitely does NOT suck
There is a 'bands you saw get booed' thread elsewhere in this forum where I tell of the odd pairing of The Ramones opening for Foreigner in 1978. But I enjoyed The Ramones.
I was there for that concert along with Mrs Strat. As I recall, Maria Muldaur thanked us (the concert-goers, not me & Mrs Strat) for being "a mellow audience". I don't remember the Katzenjammer Kids though, but Jackson Browne was superb.
Just sat through two. The Gathering and See Night opening for Bent Knee. The former is from Is from New Jersey and I hope they don’t come to San Francisco any time in the future. The latter —the lead guitarist was out of tune and rather than sing lyrics the lead singer just caterwauling the entire time. At least they had a discernible lyric. The Gathering sounded like Black Flag without any talent. And I’m not a Black Flag fan. I kept thinking sometimes more is....less
Weird but I would have had a blast hearing The Ramones blast through two or three minute songs in contrast to the corporate rock sounded of Foreigner
I went to their show in ,I think it was, Pasadena. They were late to the stage. They claimed that the delay was due to there singer being "run over by a bus". IIRC Norwood from Fishbone mumbled through a few songs, then they were off. I guess I caught them on a good day.
