i cleaned this back in May,but put off listening to this 80-minute work.
i've remained ambivalent about Messiaen.his music is impressive but hard for me to take completely seriously.i like the sound of the Ondes Martenot, but
at times it gives a cartoon-ish feel to the music that i don't think is Messiaen's intention.anyway,i'm enjoying this as an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink piece of high-impact music, just a bit wacky. Angel SB-3853,from 1978.this is SQ Quadraphonic, but of course i'm listening in stereo.
    producer:Christopher Bishop.engineer:Christopher Parker.

    London CS 6232,12/62.recorded 4/24-27/61 in the Sofiensaal,Vienna.
    producer:Christopher Raeburn.engineer:James Brown.music by the Strauss family(Johann Sr. & Jr.,Joseph) & one by Ziehrer.this pressing is a bit of a mystery:it doesn't have the usual "made in England" & doesn't show any
country of origin.above the matrix number on each side is an N-or maybe i should say below, since the matrix number (as usual for that era) is printed upside down & so is the N.

London CS 6346,12/63.recorded 12/62,West Hampstead Studio No. 3.
producer:Erik Smith.engineers:Michael Savage & Gordon Parry.the label is the blue label of the London pop music series (think Beggars' Banquet) rather than the usual red classical label.no country of origin on the label.the music is rather dryly played & recorded, and in any case, this is the kind of Mozart that doesn't stick with me.

these recordings were made for Vox,c.1959.the conductor is Eduard van Remoortel.the "Vienna Pro Musica Orchestra" is heard in the Symphony & the "South West German Orchestra" in the Dream.according to a review in Billboard, the Symphony recording was the 1st to be released in stereo.
performances & sound aren't bad.my copy is an RCA Custom pressing,c.1977.

more Vox recordings on this one.40 is by the Philharmonica Hungarica, another fine performance conducted by Peter Maag.41 is by the North German Radio Orchestra conducted by Leopold Ludwig & is less to my liking.sound on 40 is good, but 41 is rather shrill.a quiet 1976 pressing from RCA Custom.

That's a great LP. I was thrilled when I found a stereo six-eye WLP a couple years ago for $3, looked kinda beat but plays great.

Bizet - L' Arlesienne Suites plus Danse Bohemienne played by Andre Kostelanetz

It's on a RED Columbia 6- eye label. Often Kostelanetz had the green label, but I don't think this is any way 'pops' or the like, music, so it's a little odd. Sonics and performance nothing remarkable

Interesting thread. I have about 4000 classical LP's, though my total collection has shifted decidedly over to the CD format. I will need to do some catch-up on this thread before I will start posting some of my treasured classical LP's ...

Angel S-36531,from 1969.this LP contains the selections from the Suites plus additional music for the play omitted from the Suites, arranged in the order they appeared in the play.fine performances, well recorded.no credits for producer or engineer, but as the liner notes were written by Ronald Kinloch Anderson,he is probably the producer as well.i'm now listening to this on CD:
EMI Encore, from 1993,& it sounds really good.
