For those of you who've done DB testing with audio equipment, what did you learn?

I hear you, but the purpose of my question was not to start a debate about the merits of the practice as a way to evaluate equipment. I was looking for people's personal experience because I've never done it, except for once when I asked a girlfriend to move (or not) a yoga pillow I was using (or trying to use) as a sound treatment to see if it was doing anything. I think the guidelines you've referred to were meant to discourage bringing DB tests into threads about, say, a particular amplifier. For what it's worth, I think our perceptions of audio equipment are based on so many variables that no single method of testing will lead to useful conclusions.
