    Top 3 (voted for OUSD):

    Over Under Sideways Down
    Heart Full of Soul
    You're a Better Man Than I

Very tough call between the top two, with You're a Better Man Than I not far behind. I have no idea when I first heard any of their songs, but the last one was not during the '60s.

Love The Nazz are Blue. Saw the current touring version of the Yardbirds a few weeks ago-great show.

I pointed out in another Yardbyrds Yardbirds thread a little while ago that Jeff Beck basically *invented* rock guitar as we know it today.

Before him, virtually no one had ever played a loud (relative to its surroundings), distorted, sustained guitar solo in the context of a rock/pop song. The only real precedent for this was Link Wray, and he played strictly instrumentals, so that was a different animal.

Everything else that rock guitar became followed in his wake. And it was so much more than just Beck's sound. He was an incredibly inventive player as well. His influence was incalculable on British and US players alike.

Voted for "Think About It". "Happenings" would by my 2nd choice.

"Little Games" doesn't deserve to be on this list, IMO. I mean, it's not as dreadful as "Ha Ha Said The Clown", but it's pretty bad.

I'm going to do a best of Little Games LP poll next since that album was released in July '67 to celebrate its anniversary...

I heard "Shapes of Things" when it was played on NYC radio station WMCA upon its release in March 1966.
I was 14 and in 9th grade. At the time, I thought this was the best song I ever heard! It was a Pop song
but it didn't really sound like other Pop song at the time. Its lyrical message resonated with my expanding
consciousness about the world. But it contained these "unworldly" guitar sounds. I commanded my mom
to buy me the 45 ( there were no local record stores, she worked in downtown Brooklyn where the
"record dealers" were). It had an enormous influence on my musical tastes from then on.

If I vote for "Train kept a-rollin'" does it count as a vote for "Stroll On" as well? ;-)

    Still I'm Sad

The absolute cream rated 1 to 4.
Would have made a devastating EP!

Q.How many of us on this forum have repeatedly played guitar on these songs (in bands or to the record) solo'd and pretended we were (or tried to imagine what it was like to be in his 66' headspace) Jeff Beck?

Let's see a show of hands...........

I voted for "Shapes of Things," as I think it captures all that was great about the Yardbirds in three minutes.

I wish "Still I'm Sad" was on the list.

I heard that Clapton said he gave the band that riff aka Someone To Love. Could that be true?

Yeah, they played the Snooky Pryor original in the Clapton era... it's on Live Blueswailing July '64

First song here... truncated... apparently Eric wasn't thrilled when he heard Lost Woman but he didn't own the Snooky riff...

Heart Full Of Soul is my Fave. With Still I'm Sad just behind, & you've missed it off.
Happenings Ten Years Time ago, I have never heard. Just looked it up in my charts book & it only made 43. It isn't even on their Greatest Hits CD. Very strange.

Happenings for me; the culmination of what they were working towards before Most watered their material down a bit. It was also a holy grail for a while because it was nearly impossible to find for the longest time.

Happenings was way ahead of its time, things like that are usually missed by the general public at the time.

The likes of Jimi Hendrix loved it though.

Yes hard to find for 2 decades! And yes the final studio lp was a big drop off from Roger and the 66' singles. Regressive (Mickie Most) pop wrapped in Psych leanings so no wonder they imploded in indifference well Relf & Mcarty anyhow!

Happenings went to #30 in the US but that was considered a disaster by the label and management, which led to Mickie Most being assigned as their producer...
