If only Five that would be a changing/rotating list for me.

Today I'll select: Ernie Isley, Jimmy Page, Ritchie Blackmore, David Gilmore and Larry Carlton.

Ian Anderson is a phenomenal acoustic guitarist, almost always overlooked when discussing acoustic players.

    Oops!

Photo 1 is of course, John, followed by Kurt Cobain (Nirvana), Kevin Shields (My Bloody Valentine), Johnny Ramone (Ramones) and Izzy Stradlin/Slash (Guns N' Roses).

The majority -- save Ramone (mid-Seventies) -- came to prominence years after Lennon's death. All are (or in the cases of Cobain and Ramone, "were") players in the rock/punk/alternative vein and, while stylistically varied, in my opinion share(d) the same exciting, rebellious sensibilities as Mr. Lennon.

Like those choices because, regardless of how "technically" difficult the parts were to play, all of them had a sound crucial to their band's overall sound.
