My vote is Steppenwolf's Jerry Edmonton. He laid down some incredible beats, had a fantastic bass drum foot which he said he learned from listening to some of the R & B drummers, played on some HUGE hits in one of rock's foremost groups of the time, yet aside from people on here and Steppenwolf fans he is hardly mentioned in conversations that discuss great rock drummers. I think that is wrong, and I know I am a bit biased being a Steppenwolf fan, but also being a drummer I just really appreciate what he laid down for us to forever listen to and wanted to give the man his due.

R I P Jerry and THANK YOU!!! :righton: :edthumbs:

Who would you guys like to see get a little more credit than they have?

This has come up before and my answer is always Dino Danelli of the Rascals, but yeah, Jerry doesn't seem to come up a lot and everything I've heard has been pretty impressive.

Maybe I'm opening a can of worms here, but a downside of the current appreciation of all things Wrecking Crew for me is that a "Oh, that was all Hal Blaine" school of thought seems to have emerged. Now, I love Hal Blaine but I do feel that others, especially Earl Palmer, are getting the short end of the stick here.

His name does come up sometimes, but I always thought Mike Giles's work on the first King Crimson album was superb.

I loved both Dinky Diamond's drumming with Sparks and Simon Fox's with Be Bop Deluxe. Oddly enough, neither did much of note after their stints with these two high(er) profile acts.

Yep. His sister. Plays with him in the Dex Romweber Duo. Tremendous feel; I would say she's had at least a little jazz training.

Mark Brzezicki of Big Country - so underrated that after 30 years, I still need to look up his name to know how to spell it! :D

I hadn't kept up with Dex lately. I guess that Crow isn't drumming with him anymore?

Nope. It's been a long time. When was Flat Duo Jets' last record, 2001 or thereabouts? I want to say Dex and Sara have been playing together around 10 years or so, at least in this configuration.

I was taking drum lessons in the '80's, so I have a soft spot for some of the '80's pop guys. Bill Gibson from Huey Lewis and Alan Jackman from the Outfield played some nice, tasteful stuff, as did the "pretty boys" from Duran Duran, ABC, and Spandau Ballet.

gregorya I approve of this message

On the forum, the answer would be very different, and I hesitate to post this for obvious reasons "OMG, does every thread have to...", but among the general population, Ringo Starr seldom gets much respect. Just a couple of weeks ago, there was a musical discussion going on among some 20-somethings and someone mentioned something about a bad drummer, and someone said "well, not as lame as Ringo" or something to that effect, and everyone laughed. I've been hearing things like this for years.

So, while I am not voting for Ringo as the best drummer ever, I am saying that he's wildly underappreciated by the general public.
