You've probably found 7/12/64 Tokyo and 7/15/64 Kyoto before, but it would be nice to see them show up in the Bootleg Series. And Peter Losin notes, "There may have been a performance at Osaka Festival Hall on July 13 -- Davis mentions one in his autobiography -- but in the notes to Domino 891212, Japanese critic Tosiyuki Nomoto is quoted as saying that "the tape on the 13th has still slept in the warehouse of a broadcasting station. There is not a person who heard it." Now that would be really special, if Sony could dig up that treasure, too. My copy of Miles in Tokyo is the 1996 Japanese CD in the LP-replica jacket. I was in a Tower Records one day when they had the whole series on display, but I couldn't really afford more than one, so I picked one that hadn't been released in the US. I have no idea how its sound compares to the Wilder remaster or any other issues. Has anyone had an opportunity to run some tests on different releases of this title?
That would make for a wonderful Boot series release. And it would do service to Sam's legacy as well. We put on the Berlin date afterward again and the compression/limiting is quite a bit heavier, mastered as ell by Wilder from the brick box. Not to be confused with the Porch Crusher. Oh, and the bread is done:
In 20 years of building my record library, I’ve found exactly 3 of these. One of them was in a dollar bin and had a cracked disc. The second copy had writing and crayon all over the cover. The third was this one, thanks to a friend of mine. This is probably in my top 30 favorite jazz albums of all time even though I feel dirty if I listen to it any time outside of November or December. This copy has a VG+ jacket (and still had shrink wrap until today) and the vinyl is VG and plays almost VG+. I find the redone another self portrait has made this one obsolete for me but I never played the original much so I don’t have that original relationship with the album that sometimes accounts for a type of love. Clearly you still play the original and I was curious if you still prefer it ? Maybe the new version seems like tampering with the original art warts and all?
I love Mancini's soundtracks. There are connections to jazz with the best soloists of the West Coast Jazz scene of the '50s and '60s. So I purchased from JPC the last cd reissue of The Party:
I spent way too much in Ray's Jazz the other day - ECM seem to be reissuing lots of 2005-2008 CDs at a reasonable price and three just seemed to fall into my hands. This one I like a lot - can't go wrong with a front line of Garbarek and Stanko but the whole outfit is great.
Another Self-Portrait is just that, it's not the original, and I like them both. Piay the original more often perhaps since ASP came out. I do have a connection with the original, it was my first Dylan purchase and one of the first LPs that I bought when I returned from M'Babane in '71. I didn't know what to make of it at first, it wasn't like the Dylan I'd heard before, and I didn't have a lot of exposure to the root music he was covering and emulating, it was just one of the newest to choose from and the cover had that wild portrait and a cool texture to it (which the Blu-Spec CD2 replicates, along with excellent sound). Over time my experience with the album evolved with my experience with Dylan in particular and this type of music in general. I really like the "sound" of the album, and the varying moods and styles of the arrangements and performances. ASP didn't lead to a "re-evaluation" for me as it did for many, it was a supplementary gift and I need to spin some of it again. I'm swamped with things to listen to. . . not a terrible thing.
A very good voice with a swinging jazz oriented program but strong also on the ballads Bobby Darin on ATCO SD 33-115 "This Is Darin"

Depois fui eu quem dela precisou, E ela então me socorreu, E o nosso amor mostrou que veio pra ficar Mais uma vez por toda vida Bom é mesmo amar em paz Brigas nunca mais
The "google translate" (usually loses the poetry or meaning, but you get the idea) Then I was the one who needed her, And she helped me, And our love showed that she was here to stay Once again for a lifetime Good to love in peace Fights never
Oliver Nelson - The Blues And The Abstract Truth (Impulse UCCU-40115) There are lots of reason to love this album. One, the music itself is gorgeous, some of the best written by Nelson and not just Stolen Moments. Second, the band. Nelson + Dolphy + Evans + Hubbard + Haynes...Wow ! Third, the sound. This UHQCD version is one of the best sounding CD in my collection. Stunning.
