    1963 Beatle Covers

In this thread I’m going to try to track all of the covers of Beatle songs recorded in 1963.

1964 was the year when other artist started recording whole albums of Beatle Covers.

But in 1963 it was just singles & eps.

I believe all of the Beatle Covers from 1963 would probably fit onto a 3 or 4 CD box set.

    Their were only 31 Lennon/McCartney songs & 1 Harrison/Lennon & 1 Harrison song to choose from!

    1961
    Cry For A Shadow

    1962
    Ask My Why
    Hello Little Girl
    Like Dreamers Do
    Love Me Do
    Love Of The Loved
    Please Please Me
    P.S. I Love You

    1963
    All I've Got To Do
    All My Loving
    Bad To Me
    Don't Bother Me
Do You Want To Know A Secret
    From Me To You
    Hold Me Tight
    I'll Be On My Way
    I Call Your Name
    I'll Get You
    I’ll Keep You Satisfied
    I’m In Love
    I Saw Her Standing There
    It Won't Be Long
    I Wanna Be Your Man
I Want To Hold Your Hand
    Little Child
    Misery
    Not A Second Time
    P.S. I Love You
    She Loves You
    Thank You Girl
    There's A Place
    This Boy
    Tip Of My Tongue

I'll post a new one every couple of days or so!

This first post is the only “Beatle Cover of 1962” as far as I can tell.

If any one knows of more please leave a comment. Thanks!

    I kinda like it.

    <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

My first thread I hope this is an interesting Topic!

Post other covers from other years if you like, as songs come up.

But no real need to post the originals, but if you want to go ahead.

This version of "Love Me Do" is so bad it verges on parody, intentionally or not. I expect most of these to be awful, but hopefully I'll be surprised at least a few times.

:kilroy: Keep in mind that Billy J. Kramer's version of "I Call Your Name" isn't technically a cover, as the Beatles hadn't recorded it themselves yet.

Very interesting that a cover of Love Me Do was done so early, well before the Beatles were well known outside of Liverpool. I'm guessing either the Sparrows were from Liverpool area and heard the single or else Dick James and his publishers got right to work in pushing the Beatles work to other potential artists to cover.

Duffy Power with The Graham Bond Quartet – I Saw Her Standing There (1963-02-20)

This song was recorded February 20, 1963 but not released until 2002 on the CD Leapers And Sleepers.

I don’t have that CD (yet!).

Nice work - these are fascinating and I look forward to hearing some more! I like Kenny’s Misery with strings and Graham Bond doing I Saw Her is a real trip. Sounds ahead of it’s time.

That's the way it was in wacky '63 before Lennon decided Lennon/ McCartney sounded better. Which it does.

Anyway, Kenny Lynch always was given the 'first beatles cover' plaudits, so we'll done for catching the Swallows version.

As I'm sure you know, that was a cheapie covers ep sold in woolworths or some place similar. I do have a "Cannon" ep in my collection somewhere, fairly sure its not that one. And a red label Embassy one, but I forget oh no I remember it was "I wanna hold your hand"
