With the thread-starter's indulgence, one of my most requested CD-debuts, comes just at end of the decade, or rather at the beginning of the next, and is the incredible Soft White Underbelly, the one and only studio recording by Sweet Tooth, which orbited around the bands Head of David, Slab and Godflesh. One of those frustrating albums to neatly classify, Soft White Underbelly is 34min of heavy, sludgy rock akin to Dustbowl-era Head of David and contemporary groups like Terminal Cheesecake and early Skullflower. Earache released the album in 1990 on LP and tape, but no CD release. Sadly, it seems no one, including Earache has the mind to re-issue this record. If I ever give in to the temptation of buying a turn-table, this will be the first album I'll buy to inaugurate it...
Neither the 5 song mini-EP nor the debut album “Stranger To Stranger” by the synth pop band Industry have been released on CD.
That's really interesting, thanks. I'll have to see if it can be found. Not surprised on the Vanity front given her religious beliefs.
First area I thought of, bRETT. I'll toss in Private Lightning's debut album, plus the Shane Champagne EP. You (or anyone else) would probably know this: was the soundtrack for "Urgh - A Music War" ever released on CD? I know we had that at college radio on vinyl, but I never saw a CD for it down the road.
Didn't those guys have a cassette-only release on that ROIO label, called something like "Coffee Break"? I vaguely recall owning that way back then.
Lulu - Lulu (featuring a Billboard Top 20 Hit, a Top 45 follow up, and a Grammy nominated album track) Lulu - Take Me to Your Heart Again
Zee (Richard Wright and David Harris) - Identity (although Harris is planningva cd release); Dave Clark's Time - The Album; Malcolm McLaren - Swamp Thing; Paul Hardcastle - Rain Forest; Conrad Schnitzler - Conal (mastertapes got lost); Irmin Schmidt (Can) - Rote Erde.
Generally true for Rockwell except for the album 'Somebody's Watching Me' which is definitely on CD in South Korea as I have a copy at home! Here's the Discogs link Rockwell - Somebody's Watching Me
Not that I know of. I don;t even think any individual tracks have been reissued-- not even the XTC on all the comps they've had. For that matter I dont think the movie's even been on DVD. I got an old VHS of it.
Suzy Andrews - s/t (1982). Contains a fantastic variety of covers from german New Wave songs, sadly never re-released in any form.
The Deborah was a strange one to not have on CD since her previous album was probably one of the first country artists to GET a CD release.
Step On It by C86-era Fall acolytes Bogshed - or indeed, anything by Bogshed. Not sure what the deal is there, I'd think that a limited reissue would sell OK.
Let Me Be The First was the only 80s Deborah Allen album to get a CD release and it came out after Cheat The Night.
Speaking of Prince-related, I was gonna chime in with "The Family"... ...but it turns out it got a Japan and German release after Sinead's "Nothing Compares 2 U" became a hit!
