From this list: Power, Corruption And Lies Murmur Porcupine Painful to leave off Speaking In Tongues and to a lesser degree, War.
Voted for Murmur and War, but the third choice, not on the list: Marshall Crenshaw - Field Day. Honorable mention: Aztec Camera - High Land, Hard Rain
Triffids/Treeless Plain Go-Betweens/Before Hollywood New Order/Power, Corruption & Lies Next three: Violent Femmes Aztec Camera/High Land, Hard Rain R.E.M./Murmur
From the list: REM- Murmur Echo and the Bunnymen- Porcupine Pink Floyd- Final Cut Not on list- hard to narrow these down into three choices. The Church- Seance Circle Jerks- Golden Shower of Hits Misfits- Earth AD Suicidal Tendencies- Suicidal Tendencies Ramones- Subterranean Jungle Rain Parade- Emergency Third Rail Power Trip
Like so many others from this thread, I could add a few more titles to the list. So I voted for: Madonna s/t Let's dance Speaking in tongues
Brilliant year... Favourites: The Final Cut - Pink Floyd 90125 - Yes Genesis - Genesis Beauty Stab - ABC The Fugitive - Tony Banks The Principle Of Moments - Robert Plant Syncronicity - The Police Kilroy Was Here - Styx War - U2 The Crossing - Big Country Pipes Of Peace - Paul McCartney Uh-Huh - John Cougar Mellencamp
One of the best years ever for popular music, I chose PC&L, The Hurting and Speaking in Tongues, so many more classics like Soul Mining by The The, Head Over Heels by Cocteau Twins.
I don't remember 1983 all that well, but there has to be a better selection than that lame list of music, yuck!
From this list Murmur Power Corruption & Lies Speaking In Tongues XTC's Mummer would be on this list in lieu of #2 or 3. Also the year the Floyd and Bowie to a lesser extent jumped the shark. Two big disappointments for me. Edit-Punch The Clock and High Land, Hard Rain are up there too.
Of these, New Order, Metallica, and Pink Floyd. My actual favorite records from 1983 were mainly EPs - the last two Birthday Party EPs, Minor Threat’s Out of Step, Faith’s Subject to Change, etc..
Paul Simon - Hearts and Bones (my favorite Paul Simon album) Cyndi Lauper - She's So Unusual (still fun) U2 - War (At my wedding in 1983 we used a song from this album)
Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind Thin Lizzy - Thunder and Lightning Dio - Holy Diver special mention for the Queensryche EP
Not really, the OG “alternative” or college radio scene was fertile ground for great music from the UK and US during the mid and late 80s. Much of that wasn’t on the charts (often not even the college charts), but it was absolutely not a drought for great rock music.
The Go-Betweens – Before Hollywood X, More Fun in the New World Green on Red - Gravity Talks From the list probably Porcupine Murmur Power Corruption and Lies
DaDa by Alice Cooper The Final Cut by Pink Floyd. Piece of Mind by Iron Maiden. How can the offerings from the Rolling Stones and AC/DC from 1983 be missing in a forum poll?
