2016 Paul McCartney compilation album - "Pure McCartney" *

Giving the cds of this set a workout tonight. I just can't touch the vinyl yet but eventually will spin those vinyls.

Maybe because Pure McCartney is a multi-LP set , that is, vinyl? So the vinyl LP's could be referred to as "vinyls?" You would refer to the CDs in a box set as , well, CD's?

 

Doesn’t work that way. Especially when us snooty record collectors are discussing these things.

 

CDs works because it's a compact disc or compact discs. Vinyl is just vinyl. If you really need to pluralize it, vinyl discs works. LPs works. 45s works.

Why "cassettes" works, I don't know. Then again, IRL I've probably heard them called "tapes" 95% of the time and "cassettes" about 5.

 

Okay, now explain PIN number and VIN number....

 

I like this 4CD set and the sound quality, but still bummed that "Take It Away" was left off and no tracks from Driving Rain or Flowers In The Dirt.

Ha! I realized that compared and contrasted but I never actually did explain it, though, did I?

It's a mass noun. You can say vinyls if you want, but people will look down on your as less than literate like they do on people who say beers.

So are these different mixes or masters from the album versions of the songs?

 

Only songs with any differences I'm aware of is "No More Lonely Nights" has a longer fade and "Say Say Say" is the 2015 remix.
