Yeah, the original "Evil Dead" movie was shot on 16mm and the Blu-ray and now 4k releases look fantastic.

I agree that there's only so much that can be done with standard def shot on video, especially pre mid 80's stuff to make it look presentable on modern 2k and 4k tvs but as you mention, the bigger benefit is the lossless multi-track audio as seen in many SD video Blu-ray releases (especially the older Rolling Stones concerts) from Eagle Rock.

I don't get why they sat on that. Now 3D is once again a dead thing in home video. When I saw it at an IMAX theater, I thought and still do think it was one of the best 3D presentations I've ever seen.

It should. But highly likely it won't. There's two home video releases from that tour already as well as a fanclub live CD : and the Buenos Aires show that was one of the ones filmed for "U23D" was on television and has been on grey market DVD's.

"U23D" was also released three years before the first 3D BR release. It's also likely that a home release has been deferred as the band invested in 3D filming technology which was smaller and more portable and there's probably a business reason why the film has not been released to the home markets.

I have a sneaking feeling that it will be the 'main attraction' at the U2 museum currently planned for the site of their Dublin Recording Studio : U2 get planning permission for visitor centre in Dublin

I think 16mm is the "minimum" source material for film which will benefit from a hd transfer?

Dio live in Philadelphia was mentioned. huge difference in quality from the first released dvd to the blu ray sourced from 16mm film. (of course, the state of the source material matters, but in this case it looks like the film has been stored and taken care off properly)

Several songs from both nights could be included, to present for the first time, the full performance

Are we compiling a fantasy list of extended editions, or are we discussing material that's never made it past VHS?

Her big HBO concert special from the early ‘80s.
MCA (Universal) put this out on VHS and Laser Disc, but it’s never been officially released on DVD or BluRay in the US. A couple of clips from it showed up on her “Video Gold” collection around 2011, but the entire concert has yet to become available.

I would easily just take a an official HD download instead of Blu ray disc if it means getting many of these concerts made available in better quality.

"And All That Could Have Been"

This had two separate releases, one with Dolby Digital and one with DTS. The DTS is one of the best surround mixes I've ever heard. Annoyingly, the concert was split over two DVDs. A blu-ray could fix this and upgrade the DTS mix to lossless sound. Someone needs to make this happen!

    You listening, Trent?

While the jury is out on how much can be done to enhance most low Rez tapes, SD-Blu Ray can both look and sound better than standard DVD. More visual clarity and color depth can be squeezed outta a carefully restored pro-grade video tape or 16mm. One of the best examples that comes to mind is Queen Live at the Rainbow ‘74. As a standard definition Blu ray this film really pops visually, much better than anticipated.

Eric Clapton “Nothing But The Blues“ doc by Martin Scorsese filmed at the Fillmore West in 1994, scheduled for release and the pulled for some reason. This thing is loaded with great performances, some of EC’s best playing, and can be expanded from the original film.
