It may not be worth the $90 to most but it is far from a bad sounding disc. I would never part with mine and I do own the fabled grail Black Triangle, SACD, Mini LP, Sax remaster.

They all sound good on my mediocre rig.

I just recently picked this one up and I agree.

    It is not terrible sounding.

Well, if a listener likes the typical MSFL signature sound, then the statement is not inaccurate.

And given that it is mint, a Japanase pressing, and being sold on eBay, then the price is OK too.

If it is a MFSL I pressing, then it sounds fine...

It's not a bad-sounding disc, but I much prefer the original black-triangle mastering. That said, I won't part with my Ultradisc. It was my first gold disc. I bought it new in 1988.

My friend has the UDII USA version, and I have the Japan version (purchased the year of release) The USA sounds just as good IMO. :hide:

I paid $30 for mine. Not sure if it's the Japan or UDII.

You better check, quick ;) What if you have the non import inferior pressing?
That is a great price, it was $24 in the store I shopped at when it came out.

Of course it does; they're digitally identical discs. No need to hide. :)

To be fair the seller may not know of the Black Triangle pressing, Remember not everyone who buys(or even works for)MoFi hangs out here.

I have the Japan made UD1. Sounds good but not the best. Paid $4.99 for it in excellent condition used with original Lift-Lock Jewel case intact. Not a bad afternoon score a while back.

Yes, definitely. It's really not bad.

I can definitely understand why some would prefer the MFSL. The EQ choices could be corrected if one wanted to. I do prefer the Black Triangle/Black Face, but I like the MFSL too. At least it does use the master tape whereas the BT/BF does not. There are pros and cons to both.

that disc has come down in price. Several years ago this was a normal price for a near mint made in Japan DSOTM , if I remember right.

:hide:I'd read "this pressing is (supposed by many to be) the best version available", not "This pressing is the best (sounding) version available".

MFSL used the master tapes? Has this been confirmed?

Yes, they did. It's commonly thought that the MFSL is the first time the master tape was used for a CD of the album.

    http://www.pinkfloydarchives.com/Articles/DSOTMCDM.htm is a useful resource.

Yes, I would bet anything on it. Of course, the bet could not be decided by sighted tests. ;)
