Not sure if there will be an Atmos mix for AHDN.

    Looking forward to this.

I’m surprised that Criterion is going 4K this late in the game.

I'm buying this, despite purchasing the BD version a few years go. It's the Beatles!

Hopefully some nice extras will be included. Always have enjoyed this film.

  6. Well, if you're gonna go 4K, go w/the BIGGEST Band in the Universe!

Was wondering which titles CC would choose for UHD.

Only a purchase if the original soundtrack is available!

They sell 5K TVs now, wonder when we'll see 5K discs?

Out in November 2021. I guess they're trying to piggy-back on the publicity of the Get Back broadcast

How about 8k? It never seems to end.

As the TVs keep getting bigger, you need more pixels (if that's even the right word) for added clarity.

Can the human eye see beyond 4k? I can see the benefit of filming in 6 or 8k but is this push for ultimate resolution starting to resemble what's happening in audio?

I love the Blu-ray packaging from Criterion for AHDN......4k should be even more clear and sharp! Do we have the actual date?

As I mentioned, it's a matter of how it looks on larger monitors. I've got a 77' screen. When I bought it, they were selling an 85' screen on a 5K TV. The reason I didn't go that big was because - to my knowledge, nothing is streamed in 5K, and there aren't any discs manufactured in 5K. Now, I'm sure that will change in the future...

Hard pass. The Blu ray is more than good enough for me, thank you. If it was color, I may be interested.

Fair enough. I'm still using my old 1080p 64". Can't say I notice a need for more resolution very often. But I'm probably just not picky about such things.

  21. Off:
    35mm film resolution is equivalent to about 5,600 × 3,620 pixels. Consumer 4K is 3840 × 2160 [UHD] & Professional 4K is 4096 × 2160 [DCI].
70mm film is approximately 16K in camara & 12K projected.

If someone can't tell the difference between 16mm & 35mm then obviously a 'upgrade' to 35mm is not worth it. Too few people don't take into account screen size in relationship to seating distance. The further one sits from a 4K display displaying 4K, the less likely one is to discern an improvement from a 2K source and/or display.

Just like the 'Sweet Spot' in audio, there is a 'Sweet Spot' in video.

I also remember in the bonus features on the Help! blu-ray it was stated that they did the remaster in 4K. Hope that comes soon as well.

I shudder to think what the MSRP will be. Criterion already wants like $40 for a regular Blu-ray.

That's only if you get the disc from their website. They're cheaper elsewhere.
