How much did you have the volume knob cranked up before you noticed the noise?

I’m talking full volume kind of noise, the kind of stuff that’s unrealistic and mostly just nitpicking.
Did you go with the remote version?

Yes, I went nuts and got the remote.

As did I. I also popped the lid for a top less shot, nice clean layout.

    That looks very nice!

Does the volume control/encoder knob physically turn when making volume adjustments with the remote, or remain stationary?

The volume control remains stationary when using the remote, much like the Schiit Saga I had before. Unlike the Saga it does have the very analog feeling display so you always know where you are in the volume range.

I think I’ll pop the lid on my two Khozmo PPs just to satisfy my curiosity.

    One is all RCA in/out, and the other is 2 x XLR/ 1 x RCA in and 1 x XLR / 1 x RCA out.

    Thank you for the reply.

The new pre looks very lust worthy, as does the rest of your system!

Their site/images confuse me. It looks like this is a new design with no photos on the site yet? For your unit with the volume display, is that unit available without remote for a lesser price?

I'm curious of how does it goes along with the MC60

Yeah, the site doesn’t really show an actual production unit, kind of a fail isn’t it... I reached out to them directly and the owner/designer Arek was very helpful, he also sent some pictures of production pieces and a few different color options. I believe that the version less the remote option is considerably less expensive, but even with the cost of the remote this pre seems like a real bargain.

    Pretty much!

Thanks - can you confirm the price for your unit? I don't trust their site at this point...

It goes nicely with the MC60s, really just lets them work their magic.
I can confirm the website pricing is 100% accurate, as are the descriptions.

Contact Arek of Khozmo Acoustic directly via email and spell out exactly what you wish to configure and ask questions.

Once you know what you want (type of in/out, resistors, color, etc.), let him know that’s what you want. He will give you a quote (will be same as though you priced it out online, but at least you’ll know it will be spec’d to match your gear and you can specify color).

If you decide to take him up on the offer for a new made-to-order Khozmo Passive Preamp, let him know via email and he will send PayPal link with instructions.

I own two Khozmo Passive Preamps, and I didn’t order either through the website.

Oh, another thing I did via email was provide the equipment going into the preamp and the amp the preamp would be feeding...

Schiit freya have a great feature ... transforms SE in balanced (and vice versa).

Have passive and active stages (jfet / tube)

I don't know if the price tag difference it's worth it.

That’s a good piece of advice, I did the same in my correspondence with him. I spelled out all of the relevant specs of my up and down stream equipment from the preamp and he was able to verify I was asking for the correct resistors. He also mentioned that these are easily changed by the user down the road if any changes happen in your system, which seems highly likely in this hobby...

I’m thinking in getting one for my MC225. Do you use the gain in your MC60s at full gain?

Yes, I use full gain out of the MC60s. If my memory serves me the especially high input impedance of tube amps makes them easier to match with a passive pre. Since I bi amp with an active crossover I had a lower impedance to match to with my Parasound amps, had that not been the case I would have gone with the 50k input on my Khozmo.

I talked to Arek a couple of weeks ago, my amp has a 250K input impedance, he recommended the 50K one.
My idea is to use it at full gain but I would like to have lots of control with the pre gain, I gad a Freya and that didn't happened.

Meaning the adjustments weren’t fine enough?

They where OK but I hated the clicks on the volume knob.

The Khozmo uses a stepped attenuator as well, it also clicks when in use.

But Khozmo’s attenuator is much smoother to turn. At least in my opinion.

Absolutely true, everything about the Khozmo feels more substantial.
