It doesn't have Volume 19 on the cover either: Lani Hall - Classics Volume 19

Oops. Saw you already mentioned that.

Did you buy it from soundsok on eBay? If so there is another one listed - suspicious.

The word "Classics" is in the wrong font. It also goes from bottom to top rather than top to bottom.

It looks like it came from the factory yesterday. I'd say it's counterfeit.

I have several of these. I'd say the Joan Armatrading is my fave.

Yes. The CD mentions that it was "Yesterday Once More" collection repackaged.

I think another reason Volume 1 featured Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass is that they were A&M's first major successful group (per Wikipedia they had their first hit in 1962). I looked over the list on the A&M Corner Website and after that I'm not sure what the order is for the rest of the groups. I know the Carpenters were an early successful group, but Burt Bacharach (1965 as a recording artist, 1967 as an A&M artist), Joan Baez (1959, 1972 as an A&M artist), and Sergio Mendes & The Basil '66 (1966) predate them*.

    * Did an internet check to determine the year of their first album and their first as an A&M artist.

I have the Columbia House edition. It's poor.

Gotta disagree Brad. Even though the dynamic range is there, it sounds like it was mastered in a coat pocket.

According to discogs there's only a US version with catalog number CD 2517 and a Japanese version with catalog number D32Y3512, while your CD has catalog number 392 517-2:
Lani Hall - Classics Volume 19

Looks like a counterfeit to me ...

If Flashback hadnt been released a year earlier, I could see .38 special having one.

Yes. He agreed to a 50% refund. We'll see if he removes the new one.

I'm the real dummy. It would not have been hard to check before buying, but the real idiocy on my part is i already HAVE a legit copy and just forgot!! :(

Interesting anything from this series would be counterfeited.
What's the disc itself look like?

I did it once with the Tenchi Muyo! soundtrack album. I though I'd lost it but found my earlier copy after I purchased a new one.

I could be wrong, but I thought the main difference between the regular version and the Columbia House (CH) version was the inclusion of a small CH tag (white rectangle with black text and shows the CH Reference Number) on the back of the CD case. Sound-quality-wise, is there a difference between the regular off-the-rack version and the CH version? I have a few in my collection and until reading this thread it didn't concern me.

Agreed, but since the seller is overseas I feel like I'll be fortunate to get anything. Also, I bought this with the $25 bonus deal from around a month ago, so I won't be out any money in the end (if I get the 50%)

Usually there is not. The biggest problem with record club releases were bad vinyl. Not a problem here.

You're being more forgiving than I would be! I'd demand a total refund and escalate with eBay if seller didn't do that!

[IMG] I found the Herb Alpert vol. 1 on the shelf of need to be ripped. Holy Toledo!!! The sound is phenomenal.
