You've seen the commercial for the dog drug, Apoquel. A dog is on a vet's table with his pretty, female owner when the vet walks in.

"What seems to be the problem?"

    "I'm a talking dog."

(Annoyed and bored) "The other problem?"

    "I itch."

What? The first talking talk in the history of the universe and the impatient vet is more interested in his itch? She should be contacting medical science! This is breaking news on CNN and every major news channel! Why is the vet so jaded about a dog with the seeming IQ of about 145, talking as an intelligent, sensitive, full grown man? Does this occur every day?

Then there is something else to think about.

What about the pretty, young, female owner? What is the relationship between the 2? This is more than just faithful fella. This dog talks with a wry, sardonic humor and walks the house uncovered!

These 2 have a deep, intimate relationship, sharing the most personal things, growing closer every day. They play chess together! They watch Netlix and she covers his eyes during sex scenes. They share laughter and good times.

As if to mollify a possible romantic relationship, they show the dog online at a dating site, falling in love with pretty German Shepherds. But how? Those dogs don't talk, they shake their coats and tinkle. How close could they be?

You may reply the commercial world is full of talking animals: talking lizards, talking bears, talking rabbits. Yes, but never has an intelligent, talking Woody Allen of a dog shared a home with a pretty female!

At the end of the commercial, the dog says, "Thanks for the Apocquel," as if familiar with all the pharmaceutical options and happy with his owner's choice.

All I want to say is, "Shut up and tinkle!"

whats disturbing is that big pharma is actively encouraging people to get prescriptions for their dogs. Because your therapy dog might have anxiety and depression too. And better they should have an occasional seizure then ever be sad.
