Acoustic Sounds announces new SACDs for Jimi Hendrix & Pink Floyd 2018

I think MD is overwhelmed right now. A bunch of holiday orders plus the holiday time off is slowing shipping down. I ordered some records over a week ago that are in stock but still haven't shipped. Patience is needed this time of the year.

 

True. I was surprised when I saw the original shipping date of 28 Dec. I can't imagine many small retailers in the UK choosing to ship lots of stuff out between Christmas & the new year. Would still have liked an email though.

 

They took almost a month to send me a small Black Friday order, with no explanation.

 

One guy should have no problem filling a hundred orders a day. Pull an item or two from their limited inventory, throw it in a box and slap a preprinted label on it.

If they’re overwhelmed, they either:

A) don’t have one guy
Or
B) don’t really care when you get your order

 

Yes. So you can deal with the effort of identifying which it is or just buy a new one. That’s my point.

I have an old Crest disc myself, but ripped it long ago and have no plans to buy this or the new WYWH.

 

In fairness, 99,99% of the time, when I order from MD and the item is in stock, they ship within a day. That is why I think they must be short handed and overwhelmed with orders.

 

Any source for the DSOTM mastering or just speculation based on WYWH?

 

I just sent Acoustic Sounds an email asking if they know if the DSOTM SACD is a reissue of the 2003 remaster, or if it's a new remaster exclusive for this upcoming release. Hopefully we get a concrete answer.

 

Has anyone heard Jimi Hendrix - Axis Bold As Love SACD? I heard that this is the one to get.

 

I have. Amazing. Don't hesitate if you are a fan of the album.

 

It's now my go to copy. And even if you don't like mono, you may end up surprised how good some of the songs sound.

 

Maybe I’ve forgotten, but do we actually know Animals will be a new mastering (for stereo anyway) and not just a conversion of the current master to DSD?

Well, if the owner can afford to purchase The Mastering Lab, I’m sure he can afford to bring another Customer Service Rep on board.

 

I think you are confusing Music Direct with Acoustic Sounds. Either way, I'm not going worry that Music Direct had slow delivery over the holidays. Also, it isn't worth hiring a new employee for a couple of weeks.

Disagree about the employee. You can bring in a temp for a month or two.

 

Has the Jimi Hendrix - Axis SACD shipped for anyone yet? Mine has been sitting in "Shippable" for the past week.

Yes, it's been out for some time. Got mine on October 5th.

 

I've been holding out on Axis as it isn't my favorite Hendrix, but after all the rave reviews I ended up getting a copy yesterday using some Christmas gift $. It really is as good as you all are saying.

Not in stock but says it will be on 1/7.

 

Then why they've been delayed to death?

 

Packaging and manufacturing I imagine.

This is a reissue of the 2003 remaster. Everything between the older SACD edition and this new version is identical other than the UPC barcode and some legal information printed on the back of the package.

That is disappointing. I’m not sure of DR on SACD layer but CD is a 9

 

SACD stereo is DR10 but DSOTM is not that highly dynamic to begin with - the deephasised black triangle, supposedly a flat transfer, is also DR10.

Still, kind of a bummer they didn't master anew
