Sad. He became a big part of our lives. Interesting for those that also loved SNL’s Celebrity Jeopardy that he and Sean Connery passed in such close succession.

I remember Alex from The Wizard Of Odds and then High Rollers in the 70s. That jet black hair and pornstar 'stache he sported seemed out of place when he began his stint on the no-nonsense Jeopardy. He was so different from Art Fleming that it took me a few years to get used to his style but he grew into the patrician role the show demands of it's host and became the definitive face of Jeopardy. His cancer diagnosis kind of made it a death watch in recent years but he seemed to be faring well lately and even looked quite good in the recent shows. Man, 2020 is bound and determined to go down as one of the suckiest years on record. Thanks for the decades of enjoyment Alex. The answer is RIP.

He kept going, doing what he loved, still sharing a laugh with contestants and still enthusiastic about close match-ups into his 37th season which began taping in August.

We'll still watch because we love the show, but it won't be the same.
    RIP Alex.

Original Double Dare on CBS daytime in the 70s (Alex's only game for the Tiffany Network, his first game for Goodson-Todman [later Mark Goodson Productions; he did Classic Concentration and TTTT under the latter name for NBC], and a far different animal to the Nickelodeon show of splats and gak that Marc Summers is known for):

  22. So, in July he had his 80th birthday and looked great. That was the last time I had seen him on screen. Was there anymore interviews or video clips after that?

It seems that he must have really went downhill between July and now. Or August, as he has started to tape the next season?

80 is a pretty good age to shuffle off, though. I can't imagine that Alex didn't maximize every single one of those 80 years. A charmed life, I'm sure.

Always seemed like a very good guy. Sad to hear. I think the first thing I saw him on was HIGH ROLLERS, and liked him right out of the gate. RIP.

I'm a little surprised as they haven't been filming new episodes that long this season. He's looked great. This must have come suddenly.
