And there is a point of diminishing returns. It is at the intersection of the system performance increase curve (low slope) and the hearing degradation curve (steep slope). If you are over 60, you've hit it.
I'm not hearing any imbalance in my room, but if I were I don't see that standard tone controls on a pre/integrated would help in a useful way.
gawd bless my parents 'find something you like to do for a living' Success, $, etc. will be a consequence of it, not the reason. That makes it easy, not a struggle
Consider yourself lucky sir! Tone controls are “dumb” in that you’re lucky if they work where you actually need them to. That said, I get people tweaking with them for something that sounds better to them because, in the end that really is all that matters!
The music and my appreciation and enjoyment of it is the limiting factor. Not the hardware. How many folks built killer systems and lost interest? Don't use it? Are never satisfied?
Finally found a xfmr I would use on 100 V Japanese market gear. A 2 winding (not AT) isolation xfmr. Shielded I would run a 3 W plug to the primary: H, N and G to frame Sec: the PD 151 looks like 2 wire, my 2 sources are. Perfect. If it has any hum (unlikely <10 VA on a 100 VA xfmr) I'll wrap it with some sound deadening foam. Bolt it to a piece of wood on rubber washers. My V is 120-125 so I'll use then90 V tap resulting in ~ 95 V The 100 tap ~ 106 V, but still likely OK The $3,500 Japan market MK II is looking good. Now the dust cover https://www.hammfg.com/electronics/transformers/line/169.pdf
A pretty good overview of Japanese market service V Up to 110 is OK Looks like some areas use 100 and some 105, both with a +/- 5% tolerance https://www.stamford-avk.com/sites/stamfordavk/files/AGN203_B.pdf
Wonderful room. Wonderful system. There might be better systems out there for different tastes like mine, but I'm sure your system sounds terrific.
I use this one for my CD player and it works well with no hum of other issues. NISSYO Voltage Converter Down Transformer 120V To 100V 550W A Plug NDF-550U 4956234001251 | eBay
Fence almost done, the other section looks the same. Waiting for a no rain/wind day to spray the stain.
Not me. Music and great gear has never been a passing phase for me. Other interests have come and gone, though. Of course there are some people like that. Brian Gupton went all in with super great gear. Ended up selling it all and has not posted here in over 5 years.
I can't find a data sheet but remember reading something that those are auto transformers (not a big deal) Amazon review This is an auto-transformer, not a real transformer, so be careful ! Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2023 It looks well built and does what it says it is supposed to do. I plugged it in and loaded it with a 1500 W heater. There was no vibration or overheating. I checked the voltages and it transformed 125 V to 105 V. These were the good news. When I checked isolation between input and output, there was NONE. Also, you'll notice actually from their picture that the prongs on the cable that is supposed to be plugged into the wall outlet are both small so since it is not polarized it can be plugged either way. However, the two outlets on the autotransformer are polarized, which gives the wrong impression that the unit is polarized. No wonder this device is not UL approved and since I'd feel uncomfortable using it in the bathroom or the kitchen, where there might be water on the floor, I decided to return it. It is possible they said what it really was in Japanese, but the translation is missing so I gave it 5 stars for quality and one for misleading description. Is this a hifi forum? Are we men? Surely we can't let this kind of claim be tolerated here! There exist components which you have never considered which will bring a dramatic improvement to your enjoyment of your system. Your certainty is not becoming in a man of science ;-)
I know absolutely within a given inertial reference frame within measuring error that: F = ma or V = iR please allow me to clarify: 110% certainty there is not a system currently available on planet Earth that will bring me more enjoyment. Equal yes, more, no.
Why at any point would anyone here, no matter what they have spent could honestly believe that there isn’t something better out there? Me, having a system that can’t be improved upon? I don’t think so.
