Almost certainly filmed at The Olympia Theatre, Paris on February 23, 1965. (Thanks to Doug Hinman for the reference.)

Is it just me, or does this also illustrate what a great rock n roll band the Kinks were? I mean
they are just ripping the place up.

    Yes, I know.
The band we are not actually worthy enough to mention by name . We peons can only lovingly describe them as... Them. The highest of the high. The toppermost of the poppermost. The king of kings .

I'm assuming you're referring to the Monkees of course.

There is some really nice filmmaking techniques there. Not typical 60's cuts from stage to audience and back.

The scene where theT sweep the camera through the audience to the stage is pretty cool. You get to see exactly how the kids reacted to bands back then.

But the actual shots of the band itself left something to be desired.

I thought it was plainly obvious that we were speaking of Hermans Hermits

    It's a short set.

Presumably there were other groups on the bill that night.

    Does anyone know?

PS: one think that struck me was how right Ray and Dave's voices were for the songs they were singing. Also, the fact that Dave seemed to get equal time as a lead vocalist.

This was back when the brothers largely got along well and before Ray's songwriting blossomed from writing raw rock songs to crafted pop. I love Dave's singing in general and can only dream of a Kinks where things stayed more pleasant and equitable between them for the duration of their career.

Not to me. I naturally assumed that you were referring to The Merseybeats.

Once again citing Doug Hinman, opening acts the night of this Paris concert were “an unidentified French singer” and Johnny Rivers. A writer for Melody Maker was on hand and reported that “The Kinks chalked up yet another success for Britain at Paris Olympia where they topped the bill. Despite the handicap of inadequate amplifiers they stormed through a programme of six numbers and left a packed house (of 2400) clamouring for more.”

The standard for rock concerts was 30 minutes or under at that time.

The Bealtes probably never played more than a 45 minute set.
