    gov,
congrats on the CMII amp, have been enjoying it with the C7es3 speakers for a while now and still amazed at how good they sound.
tubes can be a hobby all their own and the chase is as much fun as the sound you get from them.
the KT120s are a tough act to follow and so far everything I have tried falls well short- not even bothering any more.
as far as the small signal tubes don't stop until you have tried this combination-
back row- amp driver tubes- RCA 5963 premium industrial grade blackplates, two row mica. smooth, quiet and very clean.
middle preamp tube- Amperex Bugle Boy holland 12AU7. clean and transparent. stunningly transparent open sound.
first row- phase driver tubes. settled in on the tube lore legendary sylvania 5751's for quite a while but the lower gain compared to a typical 12AX7 seemed to drag down the dynamics on occasion.
final tubes in that spot are the Amperex Bugle Boy Holland long plate D-getter from the 1950s. added more dynamics and were slightly bright at first but have settled down since "new".
the transformation compared to stock makes the original configuration unlistenable by comparison- but I remember that it still sounded really good with the right speakers.
FYI all purchased at Brent Jessee audio tubes.
